"Patients with obstructive sleep apnea often report that they feel like 'a new person' after beginning treatment with continuous positive airway pressure therapy."  ScienceDaily.com reported earlier this month on a new study which gives objective support for  the anecdotal claims that CPAP therapy indeed helps reduce fatigue and increases energy!

Still we are amazed at how many people neglect their health by either not using their CPAP regularly or by not keeping their equipment in top condition for optimal results.  Is it time for you to replace your mask?  Overly worn masks do not seal well, and leaks compromise the effectiveness of the CPAP. Perhaps you don't feel as good as you did when you started therapy.  Get your machine checked and re-calibrated if necessary!

In addition to the best products, we offer a variety of services to help you stay on top of your CPAP therapy.  You can review our list of services at the bottom
right of the page!  And be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom for our monthly coupon.

We look forward to serving you in 2011!

Q&APrescription Pad and Pen

Is a prescription required to purchase a CPAP and/or mask online?

Yes!  So often our customers are surprised when we ask for a prescription before filling their online orders.  A prescription is required to purchase these items anywhere, but apparently there are several online companies out there who do not enforce this law set by the FDA.

We know that it is an inconvenience to have to obtain a prescription to buy something that we cannot imagine buying unless we need it, but such is the law at this time.

Be careful buying from a company that does not ask for a prescription.  At EZ CPAP we recently had to set a CPAP pressure for a patient who bought his machine online.  The company he purchased it from did not ask for his prescription and therefore sent him the machine without the correct pressure setting.  He was unable to tolerate the default pressure it was set at and had to wait until he could get a prescription to bring it to us to set it.

Companies that do not follow the law are unlikely to provide proper support overall when you need help with your equipment.

Just a thought...

Does your insurance policy have a high deductible or co-pay, or does your current CPAP provider limit your product choices based on your insurance reimbursement? Consider purchasing your CPAP supplies  and submitting the bill to your insurance yourself.  CPAP providers who are not contracted with insurance companies are able to offer lower prices.  You pay less and you can still apply what you did pay to your deductible!  And, you will get the products
you want  --  the products that work for you.

Sleep-Disordered Breathing is Costly

Danish
Dollar Sign researchers at the University of Copenhagen and the Danish Institute for Health Services conducted a study to examine the socio-economic burden of 3 sleep disorders:  snoring, sleep apnea and obesity-related respiratory difficulties.

So what did they find?  Sleep apnea and obesity-related respiratory patients are likely to have medical costs 2-3 times higher and an unemployment rate 30% higher than healthy control subjects.  The study results include direct costs such as doctor visits, hospital visits and medication use, while indirect costs are reflected in work time lost, lower income and higher unemployment. The study further shows that these socio-economic consequences are appearing up to 8 years before patients are actually diagnosed.

How has sleep-disordered breathing affected your life?  If you or someone you know is struggling with sleep and/or obesity-related breathing problems, make an appointment with a pulmonologist or sleep specialist as soon as possible.

Featured Product

The New Quattro FX from ResMed

ResMed has done it again!  Their new Quattro FX Full Face CPAP Mask has many amazing features to make using a full face mask more comfortable.

  • The Quattro FX rests gently on the bridge of the nose without a forehead support, providing a clear view while wearing it. Fewer points of contact with the face means greater comfort.

  • The Spring frame is flexible and with the headgear the Spring cushion "suspends" in place to maintain a good seal.

  • The headgear is designed to gently rest on the crown of the head.  The criss-cross design at the back of the head provides better support without placing pressure on the neck.

  • Like all of the masks in the Mirage series, the Quattro FX also has a dual-wall cushion designed for a comfortable, superior seal.
