Tip of the Month
Did you know that keeping your CPAP mask clean improves its ability to seal?
If you can, remove the cushion from the mask frame and wash it with a gentle soap and warm water. (You can still wash your cushion even if you cannot remove it.) By washing the cushion you will be removing any oily residue left by your skin.  That oily residue is what reduces the ability of the cushion to seal effectively on your face.  Washing the cushion daily is recommended.

Q&A
Question:
Why do I need to have a prescription just to buy a mask?
- Jennifer, NE

Answer:
The FDA treats CPAP masks like medication, and therefore they require a prescription for dispensing.

Activa LTResMed Mirage Activa™ LT

For people who sleep on their sides or move a lot during sleep and have trouble maintaining a good seal with their current mask, the new Mirage Activa™ LT nasal mask from ResMed is a great option.

The dual-wall cushion and ActiveCell™ technology of the Mirage Activa™ LT is the key to the good mask seal.  The mask inflates, pushing the cushion against the face and keeping it there. The silicone material of the cushion also has a "stickier" texture that adheres to the face with less potential for slippage. With 4 sizes available, the Mirage Activa™ LT provides a comfortable and effective fit for a wide range of facial structures.

Working from their original design, the Mirage Activa™, ResMed has made improvements with the Mirage Activa™ LT.  The forehead support now has a Microfit dial, making finer adjustment possible for a more personalized fit.  The exhalation vent is a smaller, circular design allowing for very quiet and gentle air diffusion for improved comfort for you and your bed partner.  The overall size of the mask is now smaller, contributing to a less bulky feeling. And, the short tubing attached to the original Activa has been removed, decreasing the amount of weight and downward drag on the mask for a better seal.

SleepWeaverCircadiance SleepWeaver™
This revolutionary, soft, all cloth nasal mask overcomes some of the most common problems that sleep apnea patients experience with conventional CPAP interfaces, such as pressure from headgear, skin irritation and sleep disruption.  We recommend that if possible you try this mask on before purchasing it to make sure it seals since it is a "one size fits all" mask.

How It Works:  The SleepWeaver™ mask works by using balloon physics.  When a balloon is inflated, the air pressure inside the balloon is the same at all points, pushing against the wall of the balloon until the tension of the balloon wall or something outside of the balloon pushes back.  Likewise, the SleepWeaver™, when set over the nose and against the face , inflates until all points inside are at the same pressure, keeping the mask in place.
