July 29-August 3, 2012 The Charles Mingus Experience is a unique opportunity for young musicians to experience and explore the genius of Charles Mingus in a comprehensive workshop environment on the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers University. The 2012 Rutgers Summer Jazz Institute is ideal for young musicians ages 13-18 interested in improving their jazz improvisation, small group, and large ensemble skills. Students work intensively in daily rehearsals with the internationally renowned, award-winning jazz faculty of Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts.

Rutgers Design Camp
July 9-20, 2012 A two-week intensive for ages 14 to 18, this program develops skills in graphic design for motivated high school artists. Created and supervised by Mason Gross faculty, the curriculum focuses on core principles of design while also introducing the relevant software. The course includes focused studio work, technical demonstrations, group critiques and a field trip to NYC. Design Camp also features a Portfolio Workshop addressing how to present work effectively for college admissions. Design Camp uses traditional classroom space as well as top-notch computer lab facilities in the Department of Visual Arts at the Mason Gross School of the Arts on the New Brunswick Campus of Rutgers University.

July 22-27, 2012 Spend a week immersed in dance! Develop skills through a variety of styles and explore creative potential through dance making. Open to dancers of all experience levels. Leveled placement in technique classes available for advanced learners.
Rutgers Summer Dance Conservatory
July 22-August 3, 2012 Two weeks of intensive, collegiate-level study for experienced dancers considering professional careers. The Dance Conservatory also welcomes newly admitted college students, dancers considering transferring to the Mason Gross School of the Arts, and young professionals considering college options.

Aspects of Architecture:
The Prints of John Taylor Arms Through July 31
John Taylor Arms (1887-1953), an American etcher who specialized in the depiction of architecture, created prints that astonished viewers with his extraordinary skill in capturing detail. Originally an architect and a great admirer of Gothic architecture, Arms began in 1923 his ambitious project of documenting Europe's major churches through a series of prints. This exhibition features twenty-six prints dating between 1919 and 1940.

Art of Valery Yurlov Through June 3
The Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers continues its series of one-person shows devoted to Soviet nonconformist artists. Yurlov stands out as one of the earliest proponents of analytical abstraction within Soviet nonconformist art and was among those brave artists who, as early as the 1950s, defied the harsh restrictions placed on artists by the Communist government.

Currently on view at the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University is Popcorn & Starbaby: Children's Book Illustrations by Frank Asch. Asch is a noted author and illustrator of more than 65 children's books.
Rachel Perry Welty 24/7
Through July 8
Rachel Perry Welty is a conceptual artist who creates humorous and beautifully crafted work on the subject of life in the twenty-first century. Addressing issues that include consumerism and information overload, she uses fruit stickers, restaurant take-out containers, messages left on her answering machine, medical records, toys, and email spam as materials for her art. Welty reminds us to look at what we overlook and to pay attention to the momentary.
