- Welcome to the
OpieOils.co.uk Newsletter, Issue 4 -
It's been another busy month here at the Fuel Depot!
We had a great - if exhausting - time mid-month at Japfest, Castle Combe Circuit. Thanks to everyone who came and saw us (oh yes, and the cars...) at our stand. The Japanese horse-power monsters and Le Mans winning Aston Martin DBR9 attracted a lot of attention and seemed to be a hit with anyone with a camera!
Over 1500 of you entered our "guess the car competition", run in conjunction with Gulf to mark the launch of a new range of Gulf oils, including the all new Gulf Competition range, exclusive to Opie Oils. Congratulations to our winner, Mick Hall from Leigh on Sea in Essex.
As a special introductory offer, the complete Gulf range is now available for purchase at very special prices, but only until Wednesday 10th June.
Our competition proved really successful, so we're planning to run a monthly competition as a regular event. Look out for the next one, coming soon. We've got some great prizes lined up and it costs nothing to enter. Someone has to win, it could be you!
We've also had some new products in from other suppliers - things you've asked for and we can now supply, without the need to pay dealer prices!
More details on all of this and more in issue 4...

Japfest 2009
Opie Oils were at the Japfest Japanese Car Show which took place on 16th May at Castle Combe Circuit in Wiltshire.
Japfest is Europe's biggest Japanese car show and featured around 2500 Japanese show cars and all-day track action.
Our special JapFest show bargains proved very popular and kept us busy all day - to the point that most of us didn't even have time to have a look around the show!
Our "mystery guest" car was the Le Mans 2008 winning Aston Martin DBR9, sponsored by Gulf UK and kindly lent to us by the car's owners - complete with Le Mans track dirt!
This and the other cars from Dragon Performance, JR Motorsport, Keith Cowie and Team D:MON all proved popular with the crowds and were much snapped throughout the day!
We've put together a gallery of photos from the day on our web site if you'd like to take a look.
Many thanks to everyone involved, everyone who helped and everyone who came to see us for making it an enjoyable and successful day.

GulfIn our last newsletter we ran a "guess the car"
competition, asking you to name the make of car and the oil sponsor from these 2 clues....
... the answers were Aston Martin and Gulf. Here's
the Aston Martin DBR9 from a more usual angle!
Opie Oils have been involved in the development
of the Gulf Competition product range and are proud to be able to bring these quality
oils from this iconic brand to the market on an exclusive basis. We've also agreed to retail a comprehensive
range of Gulf oils for "road use" on our web site, further expanding our range
of engine, gearbox and manufacturer specific oils (for BMWs, Fords, VWs,
Vauxhalls, Renaults).
We sent out a separate mailing with details of
the Gulf range, but in case you missed it, have a look at the overview of the Gulf range on our web site.
As an introductory offer, all Gulf products are discounted until Wednesday 10th June.

Coming Soon - Silkolene Pro S Race 5w-30
Amongst performance car enthusiasts and motorsport competitors, Silkolene Pro S has proved our biggest seller. And so it should be... it's a fantastic quality oil at a competitive price!
To date, Pro S has been available in 2 viscosities - 5w-40 and 10w-50 - but with the increasing trend towards lower viscosities, 5w-30 is now a common manufacturers' recommendation, particularly for Fords and the latest generation Japanese cars.
Cue........... Silkolene Pro S 5w-30!
Yes, we asked for it, Silkolene listened and it'll be in our warehouse mid-June. Pale amber in colour, it's not quite as funky as the purple Pro S 10w-50, but if your car requires a 5w-30 oil it's the best Pro S yet!
Competing? Pro S 5w-30 could also give some performance benefits over thicker viscosities for sprints, short races and qualifying laps. And what's more, it CAN also be used on the road!
Pre-register your interest here - the first few pallets will be at a special promotional price, with priority given to anyone who has pre-registered.

Tech article - Building a Good Oil or Hydrocracked mineral oils, PAOs and Esters
It is impossible to make a good 5w-40 (or even 10w-40) using
only mineral oil. The base oil is so thin, it just evaporates away at the high
temperatures found in a powerful engine that is being used seriously.
Although
there are chemical compounds in there to prevent oil breakdown by oxygen in the
atmosphere (the process of oxidation) they cannot adequately protect vulnerable
mineral oil at the 130 degC plus sump temperatures found in a hard working
turbocharged or re-mapped engine.
The solution? Read our article for more info!
