KOREAN EXCHANGE STUDENT UPDATE

As you all know, our 10 Korean exchange students arrived on Monday, January 9th. There were a few "glitches" on Tuesday, but we successfully ironed them all out and everything is going quite smoothly. The company that sponsors these students is Univest Foreign Exchange Academy. The Academy is Christian and part of their philosophy is to have their students "experience" our culture and be presented the Gospel through a Christian home and school." What better place than GSLS!

The students are in 3rd through 8th grades. James is in 3rd, Jennifer and Crystal in 4th, Kevin and Chris in 5th, Jack in 6th, Irene and Jenny in 7th and Deokgyu and Terry in 8th. Their chaperone is Nari.   They are very excited to be here and are really bonding with their classmates. Their host families are having a wonderful time with them. Tomorrow the group is going to SF on the Larkspur Ferry, 1 student is going camping and one to Tahoe.

This is a great enrichment program for our school and has created a lot of excitement in the classrooms. Thank you to the host families who have graciously opened their homes to these students and their chaperone.

Annual Women's Epiphany Breakfast
The Annual Women's Epiphany Breakfast was held Saturday morning for over 40 women of Good Shepherd Church and School.  A free will offering was taken with a small amount used to offset the cost of hosting the breakfast and the balance going to The Dehnert Family, members of our Good Shepherd Family.  Many thanks to the ladies who hosted the breakfast and the ladies who attended in support of Good Shepherd's Womens's ministries. The food was yummy and the fellowship was delightful.

CURING KAYLA ROSE
Earlier in the week Susan shared with all of us an update on Kayla Dehnert and her family. The Dehnerts - Annie, Denny, Kayla and Anthony and their exteended family, have been GSLC members for three generations. Kayla, currently a second grader at Lu Sutton, attended preschool and kindergarten here at GSLS. Her brother Anthony is currently in Mrs. Beckmann's preschool class. In November Kayla had a cancerous brain tumor removed. Both Annie and Denny are taking a leave of absence from work to join their daughter at St. Jude Children's Hospital and Research Center in Memphis, Tennessee, where Kayla will undergo intense radiation treatment and chemotherapy for almost a year.

From the beginning, friends and family have rallied behind the Dehnert Family by preparing meals and donating money for gas. Their needs are much greater now as they will be traveling back and forth over an extended period of time to Tennessee.

Many of our Good Shepherd families have been asking how they can help. There are many ways we can join together to support this amazing and inspiring family. We can volunteer our time, our skills, and our financial support. A large team of volunteers from the Novato community, the Friends of Kayla Rose, are in the process of planning the several events listed below to support the Dehnert family. We will be using the GSLS weekly newsletter to continue to update everyone on ways they can get involved. Thank you in advance for your support!

The church will be accepting tax-deductible donations for Cure Kayla Rose ~ and will present a check on the night of the auction (February 10th). Simply drop a check in the offering on any Sunday, at the church office anytime, or via mail (1180 Lynwood Drive, Novato, CA 94947).
