MS DONATES TO THE DIABETIC YOUTH FOUNDATION

 Dear Diabetic Youth Foundation,

My name is McKenna Caramucci and my brother is a Type 1 Diabetic. My family attends Bearskin Meadow Family Camp II. I am a 7th grader at Good Shepherd Lutheran Middle School in Novato, California. This semester I was elected as the school's Treasurer. Each year the small student body of 50 students make a Charitable Donation to an organization of their choice. This year I submitted DYF and it was voted in as the recipient of collections raised. As a school we organized a Fundraiser and were gifted a total of $343.75 . Students competed daily by class to raise this money.

Bearskin Meadow has been a life changing experience for my family. We hope that this money will help afford another child/family this same life changing experience.

With Warm Regards,

McKenna Caramucci

7th Grader Student

CURING KAYLA ROSE
Earlier in the week Susan shared with all of us an update on Kayla Dehnert and her family. The Dehnerts - Annie, Denny, Kayla and Anthony and their exteended family, have been GSLC members for three generations. Kayla, currently a second grader at Lu Sutton, attended preschool and kindergarten here at GSLS. Her brother Anthony is currently in Mrs. Beckmann's preschool class. In November Kayla had a cancerous brain tumor removed. Both Annie and Denny are taking a leave of absence from work to join their daughter at St. Jude Children's Hospital and Research Center in Memphis, Tennessee, where Kayla will undergo intense radiation treatment and chemotherapy for almost a year.

From the beginning, friends and family have rallied behind the Dehnert Family by preparing meals and donating money for gas. Their needs are much greater now as they will be traveling back and forth over an extended period of time to Tennessee.

Many of our Good Shepherd families have been asking how they can help. There are many ways we can join together to support this amazing and inspiring family. We can volunteer our time, our skills, and our financial support. A large team of volunteers from the Novato community, the Friends of Kayla Rose, are in the process of planning the several events listed below to support the Dehnert family. We will be using the GSLS weekly newsletter to continue to update everyone on ways they can get involved. Thank you in advance for your support!

Simply drop a check in the offering on any Sunday, at the church office anytime, or via mail (1180 Lynwood Drive, Novato, CA 94947). Spring Auction - Request for your support!

Happy New Year Good Shepherd parents!

The auction committee is spearheading a fabulous event that will be held on May 19th, 2012 at the StoneTree Golf Course.  Mark your calendar now, so you're sure to be able to join us!

The auction committee has already started to hunt for donation items and corporate sponsors.  One of the best places to turn for donations and ideas is our own Good Shepherd families.  You may be receiving a call within the next few weeks from someone on the donation committee to see what your family would be able to contribute to the school auction.  We are expecting a large turnout this year and will need many donations to make sure we have plenty of bidding power.  We'd love to have an auction donation or two from every family!

This is a great opportunity to be creative! Some ideas:

  • Request a gift certificate from businesses you frequent: As a loyal customer, you already have a personal connection. Which of your favorite salons,  restaurants, stores, or local businesses could you ask to donate?
  • Ask the favorite camp that your child attends during break for a donation
  • Donate sporting events from your season ticket pass
  • Donate a week at vacation homes
  • Donate airline miles
  • Donate unused timeshare "points" for a week's stay
  • Donate your time by providing the auction with gift certificates for professional services such as electrical, plumbing, landscaping design, etc.
  • Sponsor pay to play parties for adults or children

Keep your eyes open to ideas as you are out and about shopping and enjoying much needed time with your family and friends over the Christmas break.  The ideas are endless!

We appreciate you accepting the call from our donation committee, and your support to make our auction, and our school - the very best it can be!

Teresa Maushardt, Auction Committee Chair
