Parking Lot Safety
|
These Traffic Safety Rules have been developed over the years with the safety of students foremost in mind, and secondly to optimize the flow of traffic. All parents have to follow the rules at all times. Consider it a small investment of time in the safety of our children, to make sure that there are no accidents. If you don't drop off or pick up your children yourself, make sure that the parties that do (grandparents, nannies) understand our traffic rules.
DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP
When waiting in line to drop off or pick up children in the white loading zone:
- Pull forward as far as possible; keep moving forward as space opens up.
- Stay in your car, be ready to load or unload and leave quickly.
- Think of other parents waiting in line behind you.
- Absolutely no parking in the loading zone at drop-off and pick-up time. There are no exceptions.
- Parking and standing is prohibited at all times along red or white curbs.
- Drivers must remain within their vehicles in the white drop-off and pick-up zones.
- When dropping off, please make sure your children are ready to get out of the car before you pull up to the white curb.
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended in white zones, this disrupts the flow of loading and unloading.
- If you child's class is not waiting in the pick up area, exit the loading zone and circle through again or park in designated parking area.
- Getting in or out of a vehicle that is not next to the curb is dangerous and a bad example.
- Try to load and unload as fast as safety allows, don't put backpacks etc. in the trunk of your car.
- Parents, students, or teachers may not stand behind cars to load backpacks into the rear or trunk of cars.
- For the safety of everyone, please do not use drop-off or pick-up to speak with teachers, other parents, or make arrangements for play dates.
The loading zone is not very long: use it efficiently and be considerate of the parents waiting in line behind you. When you don't pull forward, leaving open space in front of your car, you are denying the use of that space to others waiting to load or unload: you keep other parents from loading or unloading; trying to exit with open space before you also keeps others waiting. Parking, leaving your car in the loading zone blocks the way and will lead to a confusing, possibly dangerous situation of cars trying to leave the line and merging back.
When dropping off your child please make sure they are ready to exit the car before you pull up to the white curb. If they need help with their shoes, coat, sweater, backpack or please park in the parking lot to finish getting ready before pulling up to the drop off area.
Come in early and use a designated parking space when there's a special occasion or when you're bringing or picking up a project or a bike.
CROSSWALKS
· Pedestrians in the crosswalks always have the right of way.
· Watch out for pedestrians and keep crosswalks clear. Red zones must be kept clear at all times.
· Do not stop your car in the crosswalk: only pull forward when there's enough room on the other side.
· Pedestrians should only cross in designated crosswalks.
Students are taught in the classroom to cross the road only in the designated crosswalks; so when adults cross just anywhere they send the message that breaking the rules is a grown-up thing, an example to follow. Please consider the safety of others if not of yourself. Drivers trying to exit the loading zone are looking at the road, and may not see you and/or your children when you try to pass between those cars.
The GSLS parking lot and driveways are congested areas that are shared by both vehicles and pedestrians. To make the campus as safe as possible, please drive slowly and with caution. Always yield to foot traffic.
For the safety of the children, please drive slowly and cautiously in the school parking lot and never leave a running car unattended. Parents are welcome to use our drive thru service, however, please do not park your car in the middle of the line to come into the building, or get out of your car to talk with other parents. If you need to come into the building or wish to walk your child into school, you will need to park in the parking area and walk up. We need to keep the line moving.
Thank you,
Susan Hall

Safeway Giving 10% to our School
Chance to win a $50 Safeway Gift Card!! | |
Every fall Safeway runs a special program to give money back to schools. If your club card is registered for GSLS (this is part of the yearly enrollment process), then you are eligible to earn $$$ for our school. You will know if your club card is registered by looking at the bottom of your receipt "qualifying purchases have been credited to escrip".
Here is how it works. Shop anytime between now and 9/13. Look for items that have a shelf tag with the logo "10% goes back to schools". Stock up on those items!! Then we get 10% of the amount that you spend on those special items. The usual earnings are about 1% - so this is a huge opportunity.
Just so you know, we earn almost $1000 a month from the escrip/Safeway program. During the time that Safeway offers the 10% back to school, the amount jumps up to $1700. So, every dollar adds up ~ YOU can make a difference!
So sorry I didn't get this notice out earlier, next year I will be more organized! You still have time ~ program ends 9/13. Please set aside some extra shopping time, cruise the aisles, and stock up.
The school or church member with the biggest dollar contribution for the month of September will win a $50 Safeway Gift Card. Happy Shopping!
