Dear GSLS Families,

We're looking forward to a wonderful evening on May 22nd at our Family Pasta Feast & Auction! Thanks for all of your attention this week with the reminder emails!

The Family Pasta Feast & Auction is the biggest Annual Fund fundraiser of the year and like any successful production, WE COULD USE A FEW GREAT VOLUNTEERS!! Not to mention, it is a terrific last chance opportunity to complete your volunteer hours for the year!

To make participating simpler, we've created an online sign-up sheet. Giving your time is as easy as 1-2-3:

Click on the link below and enter the password when prompted. You'll be forwarded to our volunteer sign up sheet that describes each open position, the time commitment, and where & when to report for duty! We're looking for the number of volunteers listed under each post.

We appreciate our parents!
3rd Annual Elementary Speech Festival
1st-5th grades

3rd Annual Elementary Speech Festival
Our Speech Festival is held to encourage the study and appreciation for poetry and other writings, and to develop public speaking skills. Each child will choose a work to memorize and present it to their class. Students will select their material for their particular grade level with their teacher.

The majority of work on the speeches is to be done at home. Students should be prepared to give their speeches in front of their own classes the week of May 30 - June 4. Your classroom teacher will give you additional details.

Several students from each class will have the opportunity to perform at an assembly in the church sanctuary on Monday, June 7th at 11:00AM. Each teacher will use their own criteria for selecting the students who will perform on June 7th. Parents are welcome to attend.

Please encourage your child, as we will in school, to create interest in their presentation by speaking fluently, clearly, and loudly, using inflection and changes in pace and volume, making eye contact, and maintaining good posture.

We want this to be a fun and rewarding experience for your child. Please be realistic in your expectations. God bless you and your family in this chance to grow!

Guidelines
1. Before and after the students say their piece they should state the title, and the author's name, if known.
For the Bible category students should state the reference and translation. Students will not summarize their piece.
2. All presentations must be memorized (notes are not permitted).
3. Students may not present a selection they did last year.
4. Clothing should in no way be related to the selection, so as to be misconstrued as costuming. Costumes and/or props are not permitted in any of the categories.
5. Students should dress nicely and present their pieces formally and thoughtfully.
6.  This is a speech festival, not a speech meet. There will be no judges.
