 State of the Church

Fall is traditionally stewardship season, the time when we ask our members to consider prayerfully their pledge of support for the coming year.  This will of course be a unique year with lots of change and new possibilities.  Your pledge will be especially important this year.  Joyful Sunday is scheduled for November 4 and we will again have one combined service at 9:00 am followed by a festive brunch.

Before that, however, and before I head off into the sunset, I want to take some time to bring all of you up to date on the state of St. Luke's.  Last Spring we had our fourth NCD survey and it gave us a good holistic picture of our church's overall health.  I will be sharing highlights of that report during the sermon on Sunday, October 14.  I would also like to invite you to a meeting on Tuesday, October 16 at 7:00 pm at which we will look a little more deeply at that report and talk together about the directions we would like to see St. Luke's take over the next couple of years.  The information gathered at this meeting will be shared with the profile committee as they work in the coming months on a profile of the parish as part of the search process.

I also shared with you in the Spring that St. Luke's was projecting a potential deficit in 2013 and I would like to bring you up to date on how we are doing financially as we enter the fourth quarter of 2012 and what our initial projections are for 2013.  Please come to a brief meeting right after the 10 am service on Sunday, October 21.  We'll meet right in church and hear from our treasurer, Catherine Way.

ADULT FORMATION - 2012

"Our Political Landscape - Part II"

Our nation, as well as much of the world, is deeply divided.  There are more questions than answers...

On October 7, in the second part of our series of the above name, we take a look at the county level of government.  Greg Edwards, our County Executive, will be with us to fill us in a bit about the "state-of-the-count".  Greg will talk with us about his perspective of how the outcome of the presidential election may affect our county - as well as some of the state and county races.  This is your golden opportunity to hear from our County Executive and to ask him questions!

October 14 will feature our Assemblyman, Andy Goodell, who will talk to us about the landscape on the state level, and how the presidential election might affect the state - looking at both possible outcomes.

The following week, October 21 will feature Betsy Wright, President/CEO of WCA Hospital, who will talk to us about the landscape on healthcare.
