The Changing of Seasons

In this part of the world we are blessed to have a visual reminder of the cycle of life.  The four seasons reveal nature in all its variety and beauty.  Perhaps no season is as spectacular as Fall, when the leaves lose their summer green and are revealed in all their brief glory.  Nature reminds us that change is not only a part of life; it is integral to life.  We are always growing, we are always dying and we are always being reborn.  We can either rage against this reality or we can embrace it and therein lies the secret to happiness.

I wanted to give you a brief update on the transition process at St. Luke's.  I and the leadership of St. Luke's fully intend to embrace the coming changes with as much grace as possible.  The vestry met with Canon Barbara Price last week to go over the transition process.  She has given the name of a potential interim priest to the vestry and they will be interviewing that person very soon.

I have determined that my last Sunday at St. Luke's will be November 18, 2012.  I will be able to participate in the Shoppers' Luncheon on November 9, the Veteran's Day service on November 11, and the performance of the Bach Magnificat on November 16.  This will also give us time to prepare for the arrival of the interim and to make as smooth a transition as possible.  There are tentative plans for a farewell reception on Thursday , November 15.   More on that later.

In the meantime, let the changing leaves remind us that all good things come to an end and that in the midst of change God is bringing new life, even when we can't yet see it fully revealed.

CHURCH SCHOOL NEWS

Join us for breakfast 8:50-9:10 am on Sunday mornings, we then move to our classrooms. This rotation we are learning to communicate with God through prayer. Prayer is talking to GOD. No matter where we are or what we are doing, we can always talk to God. We talk to God in order to build and strengthen our relationship with God.

This year grades 4-5 are "The Mighty God Whisperers" participating in a book group as they discover and build their relationship with God through reading the series "The Cul de Sac Kids." Mrs. Jackie Bennett is their teacher.

                            God's Peace through Prayer,

ADULT FORMATION - 2012

September 23, we will hear from our youth group who went on a mission trip summer to Denver, Colorado, working with YouthWorks. And Jared Yaggie will share about his journey to Europe for "People-to-People".

The Forum will begin a new series on Sunday, September 30, taking small glimpses on different levels at our political landscape.  Our own Stan Lundine, will start the series off with an overview of the topic.  Stan brings so much experience to us having served as Mayor of Jamestown, U.S. Congressman, and Lt. Governor of the state of New York.  Join us as we begin to tackle this topic and bring your questions for Stan!

Our nation, as well as much of the world, is deeply divided. There are more questions than answers.

WEDNESDAY GROUP

The Wednesday Group's main focus is to reach out to all senior members of our church and community, especially those who can't get to church on a regular basis.  It is a great opportunity to meet and greet old friends, make new friends and participate as a church family at the service of Holy Communion.  After the service we enjoy a delicious lunch and a program follows.

The Wednesday Group meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month in the undercroft, which is wheelchair accessible. Our program for September is the Chautauqua Shores Women's Chorus (formerly Sweet Adelaines) with Dee Stewart as conductor.

If you'd like to attend and are in need of transportation, please contact Liz McIntyre at 664-2873.
