bike rideCharity Bicycle Ride around Lake Chautauqua  -

Saturday, July 14th, 2012

The 10th annual "Loop the Lake" bicycle ride

for charity will be held

Saturday, July 14.

This is an event that every member of St. Luke's can participate in. This year we are adding a smaller loop of the lower half of the lake with a ferry crossing. We live in such a beautiful area and there is no better way to see the landscape than on a bike!

Registration is at 8:30 am and the ride begins at 9:00 am. The ride will begin and end at 68 E Terrace Ave, Lakewood NY, the home of Dave & Priscilla Menzies.

Rest stops and refreshments are scheduled along the ride.  And all riders will be served a free lunch after the ride. There is no cost to the ride, but riders are asked to get sponsors. There is no minimum to ride. Money and forms can be turned in before the ride (preferred), or sent in no later than July 21.

If you have never ridden the lake before but have been interested in trying, now is your chance! Pick a loop that fits you and enjoy.

Dave and Cilla needyour help by volunteering with registration, refreshments, road support and the lunch after the ride. Another way you can get involved is by sponsoring a rider. Please consider participating in "Loop the Lake" in some way.

This  recreational ride around Chautauqua Lake is held to benefit the Episcopal Partnership for Mission and Outreach. This is the charitable arm of the Diocese of Western New York and provides assistance to the most vulnerable children and adults in Western New York through eighteen member agencies, including Chautauqua Rural Ministries in Dunkirk.

If you think you can't possibly do that whole ride around the lake, consider riding a portion.  The 1/2 loop, or even meet up with riders in Celoron on their way to the end and finish the ride with them!  Contact Cilla for details!  Priscilla or Dave Menzies at 716-763-4331.

Save the Shoreline!

On June 30 and August 4, different areas around Chautauqua Lake will be cleaned up as part of "Adopt a Shoreline" days.  St. Luke's is invited to help at Lakewood Park, from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m

People are needed each date; bring a pitchfork or sturdy rake, we'll grab the loose seaweed and trash that has drifted in to shore, and pile it up for pick up by the Chautauqua Lake Association.

This project is being sponsored by the CLA and the Jamestown Rotary Club.

4th Annual Rummage Sale, Aug 3, 4, 5

Shopper's Luncheon & Bake Sale

planned for Friday, Nov 9th, 2012

We will again chair the luncheon. Liz McIntyre has been asked and declined to take charge, but will help when she can. Without her guidance last year, we would not have been able to make the luncheon a success.

How can you help?

Call 488-1264 or email wilmat@stny.rr.com

If you worked last year and would like to do the same - or something different ...

If you did not help and would like to be involved this year ...

Donations appreciated: - if they exceed our needs they will be donated to local food pantries --

Rhubarb, grapes or any other pie-making fruits

        to donate now or when ripe;

(we realize that fruits will not be plentiful this

year) We will freeze the fruits.

Flour - All Purpose white

Sugar

Crisco (white)

With the support of our whole parish family, we are sure to have another successful luncheon

 BUDGET PREPARTION

In September the Finance Committee will share a draft budget and lay out options as we look to 2013. The vestry really wants your input as we discern God's call.

Please take a few minutes and watch the powerpoint slide show which is available on our website. Go to:

http://www.stlukesjamestown.org

We have tremendous abundance at St. Luke's and great strength, but like all churches we face challenges as we try to fund the ministry we feel called to do.

 CHRISTIAN FORMATION CONVERSATION

We invite you to read Mother Susan's summary of the forum on Christian Formation for young people from birth through high school graduation on our website.

http//:www.stlukesjamestown.org

At the meeting we discussed what we hope young people will learn and how we hope they will grow in faith through their participation in worship, education programs and service. We will be using this information as we plan Sunday School and youth programs for the next program year starting in September.

Unfortunately because of the busy time of year, not one current  parent attended that discussion.

Please contact Mother Susan at

                momsusan@netsync.net

with your thoughts, ideas and comments.  We look forward to an exciting time this fall!
