bike rideCharity Bicycle Ride around Lake Chautauqua

St. Luke's is planning the 10th annual "Loop the Lake" charity bicycle ride Saturday, July 14. This is an event that every member of St. Luke's can participate in. This year we are adding a smaller loop of the lower half of the lake with a ferry crossing. We live in such a beautiful area and there is no better way to see the landscape than on a bike!

Registration is at 8:30 am and the ride begins at 9:00 am. The ride will begin and end at 68 E Terrace Ave, Lakewood NY. There will be rest stops and refreshments along the ride. Riders will be served a free lunch after the ride. There is no cost to the ride, but riders are asked to get sponsors. There is no minimum to ride. Money and forms can be turned in before the ride (preferred), or sent in no later than July 21.

If you have never ridden the lake before but are interested in trying, now is your chance! Pick a loop that fits you and enjoy. We are looking for volunteers to help with registration, refreshments, road support and the lunch after the ride. Another way you can get involved is by sponsoring a rider. Please consider participating in "Loop the Lake" in some way.

This is a recreational ride around Chautauqua Lake to benefit the Episcopal Partnership for Mission and Outreach (formerly known as ECS). This is the charitable arm of the Diocese of Western New York and provides assistance to the most vulnerable children and adults in Western New York through eighteen member agencies, including Chautauqua Rural Ministries in Dunkirk.

BUDGET PREPARTION

Your Input Matters

In June Fr. Eric and Catherine Way held an open forum on the budget. We have tremendous abundance at St. Luke's and great strength, but like all churches we face some challenges as we try to fund the ministry we feel called to do. If you were unable to attend the forum, please take a few minutes and watch the powerpoint slide show which is available on our website. Go to:

        http://www.stlukesjamestown.org

In September the Finance Committee will share a draft budget and lay out the options as we look to 2013. The vestry really wants your input as we discern God's call.

 CHRISTIAN FORMATION CONVERSATION

Also in June we held a forum on Christian Formation for young people from birth through high school graduation. We discussed what we hope young people will learn and how we hope they will grow in faith through their participation in worship, education programs and service. We will be using this information as we plan Sunday School and youth programs for the next program year starting in September.  Because of the busy time of year, not one current parent attended that discussion.  So we are inviting you to read Mother Susan's summary of the meeting on our website. Please contact her at momsusan@netsync.net with your thoughts, ideas and comments.

Enjoy Ellicottville next Weekend

Our friends at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ellicottville want us to know that the village's annual Strawberry Festival takes place June 29-July 1

St. John's will be offering tours of their beautiful and historic church; and on Sunday afternoon

(July 1) there will be live music on their lawn - which happens to be right across the street from the Historical Society's Strawberry Shortcake tent. Yum!!

Chautauqua, Tuesday Social July 3rd

      social St Luke's is hosting

 the 2nd Tuesday Social

at the Episcopal Cottage on

July 3rd at 3:00 pm.

Volunteers would be  appreciated for baking, setting up and serving. Those helping can come early to enjoy the grounds at no cost.  Contact Victoria Bauer (216-410-2598) if interested.

Save the Shoreline!

On June 30 and August 4, different areas around Chautauqua Lake will be cleaned up as part of "Adopt a Shoreline" days.  St. Luke's is invited to help at Lakewood Park, from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.  A sign-up sheet is in the undercroft.  About 20 people are needed each date, bringing a pitchfork or sturdy rake, as we grab the loose seaweed and trash that has drifted in to shore, and pile it up for pick up by the Chautauqua Lake Association.  This project is being sponsored by the CLA and the Jamestown Rotary Club.  Talk to Mother Susan for details, and please sign up to make a difference for our beautiful but overly-weedy lake.  Free popsicles and water will be provided for all our volunteers!

4th Annual Rummage Sale, Aug 3, 4, 5

treasureDon't Store up your Treasures ... Donate them!
