Summer Highlights

The Church Picnic is my cue that summer has officially started.

Thanks to everyone who made our picnic so wonderful this year--especially Aksel Soderstrom, our newest member! Summer means a break in our Church School and other programs, but contrary to popular belief, God does not go on vacation! In fact, in addition to our regular services, we have several wonderful upcoming events.

We hope to send kids to each of the diocesan summer camps and scholarship help is available. Senior High is June 24-30; Junior High is August 5-11;

Sleep Away is August 12-15.

Starting July 1 we will welcome a new intern, Chris Zampaloni. Chris is a postulant for holy orders in the diocese and is a member of Good Shepherd Church in Irving. He has just started a new job at the Chautauqua Mall.

The General Convention of the Episcopal Church will take place in Indianapolis starting July 4. Please pray for our deputies, including two members of our own parish--Susan Williams and Catherine Way.

The men's group will be canoeing and kayaking on Wednesday, July 11. B.Y.O.Boat. We'll leave right from Bible study at 8:30 am.

Our annual Loop the Lake bicycle ride will be held Saturday, July 14 beginning and ending at the home of David and Cilla Menzies in Lakewood. We need riders, donors and helpers. Email: pmenzies@stny.rr.com.

Members of the Rite 13 and J2A group will be on a mission trip to Denver the week of July 22.

And our annual Rummage Sale will coincide with Lucy-Desi days August 3, 4 and 5. You may bring your items to the undercroft starting right now.

Celtic Spirituality -- Thank you!

Thanks to all of you for the opportunity to lead the Celtic Retreat in April. I had a wonderful time and fed off of your energy!  Thank you for your participation in attending this retreat, and also to the clergy for helping with the liturgy, to the "go-fer," and to all the folks who provided the delicious food.

A special "thank you" to the people who prayed for me and kept me calm - you are a blessing.

A Celtic Spirituality group will start up this fall. If you are interested please contact Janicemarie McDonald at 484-7027, or email her at jmcdonald6@stny.rr.com

Thank you!

A Taste of Wine and Murder

Please join with us on Saturday, June 23rd at 6:30 pm in the undercroft for "A Taste of Wine and Murder" as we piece out what happened to to Barry Underwood of the Underwood Wine Estates in Napa Valley - and who is behind the crime. We'll do all the hard work - but we need you to pay witness, and watch the dramatics.
A dish to pass - finger foods or desserts, preferably - would be welcomed, and of course...some wine to enjoy, or your alternate beverage of choice.

WEDNESDAY GROUP - June 27th

The Wednesday Group welcomes the Golden Gems of Tanglewood as a musical program in June. The Wednesday Group is a special time for senior members of our parish to come together for worship, lunch and a program. Transportation to and from the Wednesday Group is available and provided to anyone who needs a ride. Coffee time begins at 11 am, followed by a service of Holy Communion at 11:30, then lunch and the program follow. For more information and to request a ride, call Elizabeth McIntyre, 664-2873, or the church office, 483-6405.

Enjoy Ellicottville next Weekend

Our friends at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ellicottville want us to know that the village's annual Strawberry Festival takes place June 29-July 1

St. John's will be offering tours of their beautiful and historic church; and on Sunday afternoon

(July 1) there will be live music on their lawn - which happens to be right across the street from the Historical Society's Strawberry Shortcake tent. Yum!!

Chautauqua, Tuesday Social July 3rd

      social

St Luke's is hosting the 2nd Tuesday Social at the Episcopal Cottage on July 3rd at 3:00 pm. Volunteers would be appreciated for baking, setting up and serving. Those helping can come early to enjoy the grounds at no cost.

Contact Victoria Bauer (216-410-2598) if interested.

Save the Shoreline!

On June 30 and August 4, different areas around Chautauqua Lake will be cleaned up as part of "Adopt a Shoreline" days.  St. Luke's is invited to help at Lakewood Park, from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.  A sign-up sheet is in the undercroft.  About 20 people are needed each date, bringing a pitchfork or sturdy rake, as we grab the loose seaweed and trash that has drifted in to shore, and pile it up for pick up by the Chautauqua Lake Association.  This project is being sponsored by the CLA and the Jamestown Rotary Club.  Talk to Mother Susan for details, and please sign up to make a difference for our beautiful but overly-weedy lake.  Free popsicles and water will be provided for all our volunteers!

RUMMAGE SALE coming soon!

treasureDon't Store up your Treasures ... Donate them!

The 4th Annual SLY Rummage Sale is scheduled for Friday & Saturday, Aug 3 -4, and Sunday, August 5th in the morning.

All proceeds will go to benefit the SLY 2013 Pilgrimage. You can bring in donated items by contacting the church office (483-6405) to schedule drop-offs OR by bringing them to church on Sundays.

Volunteers are needed to work the event. Please see Miguel or Roxanne Wendling to offer your help.
