What does it take to make a Christian?

"Christians are made not born," the saying goes. But how are they made? This is the question we'll be discussing at a very important parish conversation on Thursday, June 14 from 6:00-9:00 pm. We will especially be focusing on the formation of young people. When a member of our church graduates from High School and heads out into the world, what kind of Christian adult are they, or are they becoming? What do we hope and expect that they will know about the Bible, the Church, their spiritual gifts, etc.? What habits of Christian life--prayer, stewardship, service--do we hope and expect they will have?  What kind of relationship do we hope and expect they will have with God--Father, Son and Holy Spirit? How able will they be to articulate and share their faith with others?

These questions will help us think through the ways that we as a parish family can work to help these young people in their process of Christian formation. We hope that you will join us for this conversation. A light supper will be provided. RSVP to 483-6405 or stluke@netsync.net.

An Open Invitaiton; An Open Process

The Vestry of St. Luke's is issuing an open invitation to all members of the church to attend their next meeting on Monday, June 11 at 7 pm in the Undercroft. This special open meeting will be dedicated to a discussion of the church budget. The members of the vestry realize that when the budget is presented each year at the annual meeting, there really isn't time to fully explore all the issues and questions which may arise and they are committed to a fully open and transparent process and really want input from the congregation.

Fr. Eric will begin the meeting with a short presentation on the budget with help from treasurer Catherine Way. They will outline the process for creating the 2013 budget in the Fall and the opportunities and challenges we are anticipating as we try to accomplish all that God has called us to do. There will time for table discussions and a conversation with the whole group.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please call Fr. Eric, Catherine Way, Donna Phillippi or Paul Johnson. We look forward to seeing you on June 11.

Music News

I would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate all of the young instrumentalists who have shared their musical talents in our worship services during the past 2-3 months.  Students who have played in church during this time include:  Ashley Bennett on violin,  Michael Bennett on organ, Chris Butler on piano, Isabelle Meyers on piano, Olivia Pinciaro on piano, Emily Williams on cello and harpsichord, Margaret Williams on violin,  and Jared Yaggie on baritone.  All eight students did extremely well, and it was great to hear their recent musical accomplishments.  Congratulations to all the students and their parents!

                         -Andy Schmidt

New Church Directory Coming!

We have begun the process of producing St. Luke's Church new Photo Directory!  Please speak with vestry members, Donna Phillippi or Cilla Menzies if you are interested and able to help with this project.
