 Easter Happens

"What do you tell a family that just lost their son?" a visitor recently asked. He was not a regular church-goer, and was looking for something meaningful to say to his neighbors. The teenage son had crashed his car, "wrapped it around a tree," and was killed.

What do we say in the midst of senseless tragedies like that? Those of us who know Jesus Christ can say "Easter happens." Death is not the last word. Love wins, new life comes - to the dead, embraced by God; and to those who have been left behind when they reach out to God in their sorrows. What gives an atheist hope? I don't know. Even with all the medical advances out there, ultimately God holds our lives in his merciful care. We can be surprised by his love at the very last moment - but what a waste of our short lifetimes, not to have known it from the start!

Join us again this week to remember the hope we share; the reassurance we can bring to those in deep sadness; and the joy that can flood us, like the women at the tomb: He is risen! Alleluia!

On the 15th, Jane Campbell will be talking about the volunteering she does at WCA Hospital and Barbara Bumsted will talk about her volunteering at both WCA and Love INC.

paulbunyanPaul Bunyan Day - April 29th

Calling all men of St. Luke's Church to our annual

Paul Bunyan Day planned for Sunday, April 29th. Mark this date on your calendars; we always have a wonderful time. All are welcome. Bring saws, gloves, and a desire to 'lay up wood' for God's service. Firewood will be distributed to those in need of it. We meet for our morning Eucharist, then enjoy a leisurely lunch - if you choose not to actively participate in preparing the firewood, give us moral support and advice! You can still enjoy the lunch, the Eucharist, and the beautiful surroundings. We'll gather at 9 am at the home of Dan Anderson, 4463 Mahanna Rd, Bemus Point, NY.

You are invited   ...

Fellowship at St. Luke's

You are invited to two special events this Spring which are being planned for fun and fellowship. On Friday, April 20 we'll meet at church for a simple pizza and salad dinner and then head over to "the Spire" (formerly First Congregational Church) to watch Godspell, featuring our own Cathy Covarrubias and Rachel Phillippi!

There is also a Murder-Mystery dinner in the works, details to follow.

Good Friday Offering

The Good Friday Offering has been a source of support, love, and hope for the people of the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East for over a century. Please be generous with your offering. Envelopes will be provided in the Good Friday bulletins or you can send your donation in to the office. Make checks out to St. Luke's and put "Good Friday" in the notation.
