The VOICE of St. Luke's
March 11, 2012 |

| |
The Men of St. Luke's held their annual meeting on February 25, 2012. Present were Dan Anderson, Richard Anderson, Albert Brown, Jim Holton, Brian Johnson, Paul Johnson, Matt Smith, Eric Williams. We enjoyed fellowship and an abundance of great food and drink, reviewed the past year of activities and looked ahead to an exciting 2012. The first event of the year has already been held-the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. Thanks to coordinator Peter Dawson and his excellent crew, this was again a successful event.
Our next event will be our signature event, the "Paul Bunyan" Day, which is open to men of all ages and abilities. After some discussion, we decided to hold this year's event on Sunday, April 29. This event includes an outdoor celebration of the Eucharist, a delicious lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs and the opportunity to play in the woods. The wood we split goes to families who need it and is much appreciated.
Shortly thereafter we hold another very popular event, the Mother's Day Brunch on Sunday, May 13. This brunch is provided free of charge in honor of all the women of the parish. And we also regularly provide a hot-dog barbecue on Start-up Sunday in September.
At our meeting we also came up with some other ideas for events this year, including a kayaking/canoeing outing for the parish in July and a day at the beach in August. We discussed a couple of requests from the youth group, namely the construction of a GaGa Ball court and a Casino Night fund raiser. We are also considering regular men's gatherings which might include a guest speaker from time to time. If you are interested in any of these ideas, please contact Dan Anderson, Men's Group coordinator at (716) 386-7802 or by email at imn24stree@windstream.net.
And remember that all men are always welcome at the men's Bible Study on Wednesday mornings at 7:30 am in the parish house kitchen.

Moses and a Burning Bush!
How does God get your attention? With Moses, God lit a bush on fire and then spoke from it. What might it take for us to notice God in our busy, daily lives?

The Acting Apostles | |
The Acting Apostles will present an original production, "The Early Temptations of Christ," on Sunday, March 18th! The Bible tells us that Jesus grew up as a regular kid in Nazareth, listening to his parents and growing in wisdom (Luke 2:51-52). No doubt he faced temptations as an adolescent, not just as an adult.

ADULT FORUM | |
During Lent, Fr. Eric is guiding the Adult Forum in an exploration of the sacraments and howwe see God through them in our series on "Sacramental Christianity or Why God has dirt under His Fingernails." On Sunday, March 11, we'll take a deeper look into the theology of the Eucharist.
Join us at 9:00 am on the stage area of the undercroft as we delve into the seven sacraments over the course of Lent.
(March 11: Holy Eucharist, March 18: the Minor Sacraments, March 25: Living a sacramental life.)

WORSHIP during LENT -
Where Tradition meets Today! | |
Each Sunday through Lent at 10 a.m. we worship using a different type of liturgy and music, all fitting under the umbrella of "Episcopal Holy Eucharist," adhering to the same pattern of Word -Prayer - Communion, illustrating the rich diversity of Episcopal/Anglican worship.
3rd Sunday in Lent, March 11: "Contemplative Worship." Elements of monastic worship and silent contemplation will deepen Word and Prayer.
4th Sunday in Lent, March 18: "Joyful Praise." Gospel and contemporary praise songs will lift our spirits as we highlight the joy of knowing Jesus.
5th Sunday in Lent, March 25th: "Expanding our Images of God." Sometimes familiar words limit our understanding of God's activity. We'll explore new texts, spoken and sung.
Join us and bring a friend; you just might be surprised at how God touches your heart in a new prayer, song or ceremony. |

Love INC | | |
Love In the Name of Christ has directed to St. Luke's a 25 year old young lady who is single and expecting a baby girl the end of May. Angela lives in the apartment building "behind" the church next to our parking lot. Through a series of events which included an anticipated move, she now finds herself staying in the apartment building, on public assistance, and worried about providing for the baby. Can St Luke's parish family help this young lady by "showering" her with baby products and necessary items? Contact the church office -
483-6405 with your offer of support for Angela and Chloe Grace. |
