LENT - a Season for Spirituality

When I was a kid, Lent meant giving something up, usually something good like chocolate. But I remember looking forward to our Wednesday night church program.  I loved coming to church at night, the darkness of the church and the light of the candles.   I loved the pot-luck suppers and the youth activities over in the parish house while the adults had their classes.

I invite you and your family to join us on Wednesday nights this Lent for a very special program. Our theme will be "Who has God created you to be?" Each of us is created in the image of God and we will be taking time to discover our unique heritage, qualities, gifts and passions and how God has used these and might possibly use them in the future for His glory. We will begin each night with a simple service at 6 pm featuring music by our young people followed by a delicious soup supper. Youth group will meet and Mother Susan is planning a special series for kids on "Hands-on Sacraments."

This Lenten series begins February 29th. Please also join us the week before for our traditional Shrove Tuesday pancake supper on February 21st from 5:00-7:00 pm. On Ash Wednesday, February 22nd, our services will be held at 7:00 am in the chapel, 11:30 am in the undercroft, and 7:00 pm in the church with choir.

And don't forget our ongoing opportunities for worship and spiritual growth-the healing service on Thursdays at 12:05 pm and the Monastery of the Heart reading group which meets the first, third and fifth Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 pm. Some years ago we offered a service on Friday nights called the "Stations of Jesus' Life," which used the stained glass windows as a devotional. If you are interested in coordinating that service, please call the office and let us know. You can also use the booklets any time for your own personal devotion.
