What is with that new pledge card?
By now you should definitely have received your stewardship letter in the mail. If not, please let us know. We are always trying to keep our mailing list up to date and that is a lot harder than it sounds. I am grateful to Paula Pickett, our Warden for Administration, for once again heading up our stewardship efforts. She will stepping down as warden this next year and is putting together a small stewardship committee to help us with next year's effort. Please let her know if you are interested.
You will notice that this year's pledge card is not a card, but rather a whole sheet. This was my bright idea and it came out of our recent parish retreat to the Benedictine Sisters of Erie. One of the nuns explained that they review their personal and corporate mission every year, and each person is asked to write down their plan for living out the mission in the coming year. "Hey," I thought, "why couldn't a parish do the same thing?"
So, with Paula's blessing, I adapted our pledge card to include more than just money. Don't get me wrong. Money is important. And the Bible tells us that God is interested in money. Tithing (10%) is the Biblical standard of giving and the Episcopal Church has repeatedly reaffirmed that as our minimum standard of giving. But, in fact, God is interested in more than just money. God wants all of you-your passion, your energy, your gifts, your time, your emotions, your whole life.
This new pledge card invites you to think carefully and prayerfully about how you spend the gift of life that God has entrusted to you. I am not asking you to add to what you are doing-most of you are up to your eyeballs in commitments. But I am asking you to examine how those activities are connected to your core identity as a Christian and specifically as a member of this particular community. How do you intend to live out your mission in the coming year? Each family got one form in the mail, but I would like every person 7th grade and older to fill one out. They will be available at church. Questions? Give me a call or talk to me on Sunday.

Mary meets an Angel
Our rotation story is "Mary meets an Angel." This "new beginning" is about Jesus' miraculous conception. The story is from Luke 1:26-38 (NRSV), the angel Gabriel visits Mary.

ADULT FORUM | | |
This Sunday, Oct 16th, join Adult Forum to hear about our J2A journey on a pilgrimage to England
Come and listen as Maddie Pinciaro, Kelsey Wendling, Miguel Covarrubias, and Cathy and Matt Smith tell us about not only what they did on their journey, but also the purpose of their pilgrimage, and maybe they'll also tell us a bit about J2A.
Join us at 9:00 on the stage area of the undercroft.
Pilgrimage to England

Then on Sunday, Oct 23rd, Adult Forum will offer an "Open Forum". When the Forum first started back in 1999, we offered these Open Forums as a way to get caught up with current issues facing St. Luke's, the Diocese, the whole Church - or even important topics facing us in general. We will have this opportunity once again on the 23rd.
Be sure to join us at 9:00 on the stage area in the undercroft. |

Monastery of the Heart | | |
"The Monastery of the Heart: An Invitation to a Meaningful Life," is a book full of wisdom from a lifetime of following the Rule of St. Benedict and offers ways for those of us who don't live in a monastery to share in the peace of that life. If you are interested in exploring these concepts in more depth, read through this book and together we will decide if we feel called to make St. Luke's a site for a monastery of the heart. You are invited to be part of this journey.
Books are available from Amazon for $11 hardcover or $10 on Kindle. If enough are interested, books can be ordered through the church office; contact us. |

ACTING APOSTLES to perform Nov 6th
Catch the Acting Apostles (St. Luke's kids in grades 5 & 6) in their first presentation at the 10:00 a.m. service on Sunday, Nov. 6. They've been researching their character saints, and developing a script, and they are eager to share the results with the congregation!
This will take the place of the sermon on All Saints Sunday.
The Apostles' next show will be our very special Christmas Eve Pageant, in which all kids are invited to participate. Thanks for your support!
