Becoming a New Creation: | | |
Discovering/Rediscovering the
Presence of God in your life.
I really enjoy reading the church bulletins that you all bring back from your vacations. It is especially fun to read about all the activities that churches around the country are doing-education, fellowship and outreach of every possible kind. Most churches are busy places full of busy people. St. Luke's is no different and I love to see the bustle of activity.
Sometimes, however, we can forget why we are doing all of these things. It is important to be grounded in who we are as God's people and rediscover the reality of God's presence, love and power in our lives.
That is why we are embarking this year on a series of spiritual retreats. I hope and expect that every adult member of the church will be able to attend at least one of these retreats. They will be fun, informative, and enriching. Most important, they will be time set aside from our busy lives just to focus on renewing our relationship with God in Christ.
The first retreat will be held at Mt. St. Benedict Monastery in Erie. It is the only overnight retreat scheduled at this point, though we are looking ahead to a visit to the Holy Cross Monastery on the Hudson in the Fall of 2012. The Erie retreat will be held September 16-17 and registrations are due ASAP. The fee is $50 and scholarship help is available. Sign up now as space is very limited.
We always come up with good excuses to not say yes to these opportunities. But they are essential to our spiritual well-being and the renewal of our energy, focus and especially faith. So, this time why not say yes!

Where's your rummage? | | |
We need to decide soon if the rummage sale is going forward or not. Right now we don't have enough to make it worthwhile. If you are waiting to bring in your items, wait no longer. Our sale is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, August 5 & 6, and we need your donations right away if this is going to work.
When you bring in your items there are designated and labeled areas. Please help us by presorting as much as you can. The money raised by the sale goes directly to supporting our youth ministry. This summer our J2A class is having their pilgrimage and next summer Miguel is planning a mission trip.
If you have questions about the sale, please speak to Roxanne Wendling. You can reach Roxanne by calling 499-3629; or contact the church office to drop off your items to donate.
Also, we need helpers in the days leading up to the sale, the 1st week of August, and during the sale on the 5th and 6th of August. Please speak to Roxanne if you are able to give some time to assist with the Rummage Sale.
