The VOICE of St. Luke's
April 17, 2011 Vol. XXIV; #31 |
| A Plan for St. Luke's: 2011-2012 | | |
After much reflection, discernment and revision, during two NCD retreats and a vestry retreat, I am pleased to announce that the vestry has endorsed the following as our parish plan for the coming year. This plan will be implemented immediately and will be in effect until June 1, 2012 at which time it will be reviewed.
Overall Vision: We heard a prophetic word very clearly that everything we propose and do needs to be rooted in our primary mission of drawing closer to God. This should inform every decision and activity that we do and keep us focused on our unique identity as a community of faith.
1. Create a variety of fellowship opportunities.
Many folks are not ready for intense regular commitments like a weekly small group, but are interested in opportunities to get to know one another better and build community. We will create a team (somewhat like the old SLAPS group) which will take responsibility for planning and overseeing events and recruiting diverse leadership for them.
2. Connect members with our existing ministries
Many of our members, especially newer members or those who are less connected, simply don't know what we have to offer. The vestry will build on the Fall ministry fair by encouraging one ministry per month to offer the following: an article in the VOICE, an announcement at church, hosting coffee hour with information available.
3. Create opportunities for intentional spiritual growth
Some of our members are really ready for more serious commitment to their spiritual growth and development. St. Luke's will offer a variety of retreats and small groups to facilitate spiritual growth.
We are ready to go. All that is required is you. I urge you to share your ideas and enthusiasm. Find the area that excites you and get involved.
--Fr. Eric

YOUTH NEWS ! | |
We are preparing for a lot of things between now and summer and want to make sure you know what's happening!
Our J2A (Journey 2 Adulthood) class is taking a pilgrimage this year to England, and we are in the midst of fundraising for this trip. We've sold almost all our first round of Ozark Delights Lollipops. Try one; they're only $1 each.
Good Friday is April 22nd, and the youth will present a modern Stations of the Cross. This service begins at 7:13pm and will include movie clips that correspond with each station. (Note: * Some clips may contain mature subject matter; viewer discretion is advised.*)
Sunday, May 1st is themed "Viva La Vida" and the youth will host the 10am service. We are celebrating and living the life that God has for us. Please plan to attend worship on May 1st, and support the youth on that Sunday! Following the worship service, we will hold a basket auction, also to benefit our J2A pilgrimage. We need your help with donations and ideas for baskets to auction, and we need your attendance at the auction. Food will also be available!
We hope to auction off items such as: dinner for 4; 10 typing/keyboard lessons; a teen's guide to Facebook and the internet; and other such items.
Please come support us in these undertakings and let us know what you have to offer in the way of help with our auction! ~ Miguel |

Volunteer Opportunities at St. Luke's | |
If you enjoy working outdoors, there are opportunities at the church property that would benefit from your attention. Some are on-going during the summer, such as lawn mowing. The grit from winter needs to be swept up from our sidewalks and around the church and parish house. Other projects include planting and weeding flowers; clean up in the prayer garden next to the Thrift Shop; and wire brushing and painting the outdoor railing. Give the church office a call 483-6405 - if any of these projects fit the bill for you, or maybe you've seen something that needs attention that you'd like to help. Let us know; this is your church! |
|
THRIFT SHOP | |
REMEMBER the Thrift Shop as you empty your closets to make room for your new spring arrivals! The Thrift Shop also continues to accept winter items at this time, along with those spring and summer items you're clearing out. Items that are clean and in good condition, without need of repair, along with small household items are welcome at St. Luke's Thrift Shop! |

Thank you's | |
Many Thanks from Cathy Johnner
I am truly blessed to have such wonderful friends at St Luke's. Thank you for the delicious reception, lovely cards and generous cash gift. I was overwhelmed and found it difficult to express my gratitude in words on Sunday. The hugs were the best I could do without too many tears. I plan to return regularly to say hello and make sure the financial transition is going smoothly. You are all so special to me. I extend an open invitation to come west my friends!
Love Cathy
Thank you from Carol Barr
... for all your prayers, cards, phone calls, and visits while recovering from back surgery. I am with my son,
Brian in Cornelius, NC and will return around Easter.
Thank you for all your support, love and care! |
