YOUTH NEWS:  JOURNEY TO ADULTHOOD

Our J2A (Journey 2 Adulthood) class is going on a pilgrimage this year. We are going to be traveling both physically and spiritually to London, England. We will be exploring our Anglican roots, and discover what spirituality looks like over there today. This trip will benefit those who will go, but we are in need of help to fully realize this trip. We will be doing a couple of fundraisers to help to defer our costs, and we need your help!

First, we are selling Ozark Delight Lollipops. These are $1 a piece and are very good! They come in various flavors and will be sold by any one of us going on the trip. We are also going to have some on a stand during coffee hour for you to purchase! So indulge your sweet tooth and buy a lollipop today!

Second, we will be holding a Basket Auction immediately following the Youth Sunday Service on Sunday May 1. The theme of that Sunday will be "Viva La Vida" (live the life). We are asking for basket donations for this fundraiser. These would be baskets that go along the theme for that Sunday, for instance a basket with a YMCA 6 month membership, a water bottle, a gift card to a local athletic store, and a "Eat Healthy" cookbook would be a great "Live a healthy life" basket donation to make toward this cause! We will then auction off the baskets that Sunday during a luncheon program. This will take place at approximately 11:30 on Sunday May 1.

Last, we will be holding another fundraiser during the month of June. This fundraiser has yet to be planned, but stay tuned as more details will become available soon!

Thank you so much for your continued support of our youth programs! We have a lot of fun and exciting things on our calendar for this coming year. Please feel free to check out what we have been doing, drop in on a Wednesday night, or volunteer some time to hang out with us! We greatly appreciate all that you are doing for and with us.

LENT CHURCH SCHOOL THEME:

Thankful to God - For Good Friday

This Lent we gather at the cross and consider its meaning.  How and why did Jesus get there?  Why do we call it "Good" when what happened was so awful?  In age-appropriate ways we'll contemplate this central event of our faith.  (And yes our final story will be Easter!)

Episcopal Community Services' 2011 Appeal invites you to

"Put your Compassion into Action...Create New Beginnings."

This year, we ask you to reflect on the importance of a strong community, one in which we work together to help all of our brothers and sisters in need to rise above their circumstances and become contributing members of society. The agencies of ECS do just that!  Thousands of WNY-ers have been given hope  and shown how to improve their lives, thanks to ECS and your generosity.  Please, continue to give generously to the 2011 ECS Campaign.

Help for Japan hrough ER-D

One of the ways to help after the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan is to contribute through Episcopal Relief and Development.  If you don't want to be on their mailing list, you can make checks to "St. Luke's" and put ER-D in the note.  Either mail them to the office or put them in the plate and we will send a combined check.
