NCD RETREAT, PART II: Sunday, March 27

What are you passionate about?

On Sunday, March 27 after the 10 am service, we will have a follow-up to our NCD retreat which was held last month.  At that retreat, we looked at the obstacles we face in our relationship with God and other people and brainstormed the following ideas:

ˇ         Spiritual growth is important at all levels.  We need to find ways to get together for mutual support.

ˇ         Small groups have an important role.  We need a variety of groups.  They shouldn't be imposed from above, but we need help to get started.

ˇ         We need to get the word out about our existing ministries and groups.  A more frequent Ministry Fair could help link newcomers to ministries.

ˇ         Gifts discovery is an important part of finding your niche.

ˇ         Need strong clergy - keep developing them

ˇ         The Adult Forum can respond to needs as they arise

ˇ         Community is good, but be careful of cliques.  If the church is a close family, how do you break in?

ˇ         Perhaps we can build community using technology from home; Facebook, Skype, go to meetings (all with training!)

ˇ         More fellowship events could help build community.  Perhaps a 4th St Café for no particular reason.

Whether or not you attended the February retreat, I invite you to come on March 27 as we put together the next steps for St. Luke's.  The meeting will last from 11:30 -1:30 and a light lunch will be provided.  Out of this gathering we intend to find the one or two things we would really like to focus on and commit to in the coming year.  For this to be effective, we need to know what you are passionate about.  Where is God speaking to your heart and calling you to grow and to serve?  If you have any questions, please give me a call at 483-6405.

--Fr. Eric

Music News - by Andy Schmidt

I would like to thank and congratulate our talented young musicians who shared their musical talents in church this past Sunday, including the members of the Youth Choir and the three instrumentalists:  flutist Cassie Butler, clarinetist Maddie Pinciaro, and oboist Margaret Williams.  Everyone sounded great!  Also, please remember that the next Youth Choir rehearsal will be this Sunday (March 20) at 5:00.  And join us for Wednesday night worship in the church at 6 pm when each week one of our young people will share their gift of music.

Fun for the Young on Wednesday Evenings

Kids in Kindergarten through 6th grade will have fun at the YMCA on Wednesday evenings! Be sure to wear comfy clothes and gym-shoes.  A donation of $2/night or $10 for the series would be much appreciated.

** March 23, bring your swimsuit, towel and goggles for "free swim" in the upper pool!  A couple of chaperones are needed - talk to Mother Susan. Thanks!

LENT CHURCH SCHOOL THEME:

Thankful to God - For Good Friday

This Lent we'll gather at the cross and consider its meaning.  How and why did Jesus get there?  Why do we call it "Good" when what happened was so awful?  In age-appropriate ways we'll contemplate this central event of our faith.  (And yes our final story will be Easter!)

Adult Forum - 9 am Sunday, stage

On Sunday, March 20, the Forum will continue the Crusades series. On the 13th, Clyde Card gave us a bit of an introduction to the Crusades - testing our knowledge of those events and then giving us a timeline starting from 2000 BCE!  This week we'll talk about the First Crusade and get a better idea of the "lay of the land" at that time.  Join us on the stage area of the undercroft at 9:00 am.

On March 27, the Forum will present Part III of the series on the Crusades.
