Several OITa members attended the Oklahoma Governors Conference on Tourism in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Meeting Notes Q3 Meeting  
Attendance:  Geneva Hadley, Cherokee Hicks, Brian On-the-Hill, Renee Beezley, Leslie Meurant, Carol Mapel, James Lambertus, Paige Williams, Jessica Blackstock, Karla Sisco, Heather Williams, Barbara Asbill, George Tiger, Dustin, Sheila Scarborough, Shoshana Wasserman, and Debbie Lindsey
 
 

DISCUSSION
  • Shoshana Wasserman spoke about the best usable space for OITa to communicate.  Current  oita/shutterly.com not being utilized as intended.   
  • Sheila Scarborough spoke about having an authentic voice and suggested Flicker for images. 
  • Paige Williams suggested using LINKEDIN, group page. All agreed this was best option and Paige agreed to set-up a LINKEDIN group in next couple of weeks.
  • Shoshana Wasserman mentioned that the OITa meeting notices and notes will be sent via Constant Contacts until Linked in Group setup.  She suggested adding Contact Contact safe sender list OITa Organizational considerations - What do we want to accomplish? Do we need more structure for meetings? Need to formalize group?
  • Heather Williams suggested importance of tribal economic breakdown.  All agreed it was very important. Concern the task of assembling such research to big of a project for all volunteer group?  Perhaps a breakout session at next years Gov Conf if we can assemble information?
  • Rep. George Tiger spoke about the tribes not getting involved with Tourism for number of years due to cultural sensitivity. There is a need to sell tribes and others on value of tourism through educational process. OITa is an important organization to help facilitate education with various audience segments.

  • OKLAVISION - new format and wonderful oportunity for tribes to get educational information out about each particular tribe. Ackerman McQueen Advertising Agnecy has been working hard to get each tribes involvment in developing a video about each of the tribes. Anything OITa can do to help facilitate the completion of series with tribes would be greatly appreciated.

MEMBER COMMITTMENTS FOR NEXT MEETING
  • Each member or attendee bring someone new to the next OITa meeting that is currently not involved that shares the comon interest or goals.
  • Suggestion to host a session at next year's Governors conference regardingconsiderations regarding  "Authentic Arts & Crafts" according to the Indian Arts & Crafts Act similar to what was presented at AIANTA. Brochures are available online.
  • GOAL - Communicate our message beyond our meetings.  Get the word out!
OITa MISSION  The Oklahoma Indian Tourism Association is a collaborative effort to promote and develop tourism of authentic Oklahoma American Indian cultures, histories and destinations.
