SteelSteel Erection for Gallery Buildings
August 2009
Monday August 10, 2009 marked another milestone for the American Indian Cultural Center & Museum and the state of Oklahoma as we move closer to completing a world class museum that will attract visitors from around the world, nation, region and state. During the next several months 1,636 tons or 32,760 pounds of steel will be erected to support the museum gallery buildings. more

The Cherokee Artists Association (CAA) hosted an insightful luncheon discussion on September 10,  2009 in their gallery in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.  It was pleasure to update the community about new developments at the American Indian Cultural Center & Museum (AICCM), as well as to learn about their unique non-profit cooperative organization and art gallery. more

Recently, the staff of the Community Outreach & Public Programs Division attended a presentation at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman.  It was called Culture in the Digital Age:  An Interactive Process of Building Community and was led by Mr. Joseph Erb (Cherokee Artist). more

Who do you think you are?  Sounds simple enough to answer; but, when you have only an image or a phrase to sum it up and to make an impression, it can be a difficult thing. The AICCM staff had the opportunity to ask, "Who do we think we are?"  We held an internal staff branding retreat...and it was a lot of fun!  more

AIANTA American Indian Alaskan Native (AIANTA) Tourism Conference
September 2009

Last week I traveled to Santa Fe, New Mexico for the 11th Annual Tourism Conference sponsored by the American Indian Alaska Native Tourism Association (AIANTA).  I landed in the quaint Santa Fe Airport fashioned in typical New Mexico adobe style and was immediately greeted by two people hand-pushing the stairs to the plane. LOL! more

The  OITa met at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History for its quarterly meeting to develop the mission statement and goals for the upcoming year. The Oklahoma Indian Tourism Association is a collaborative effort to promote and develop tourism of authentic Oklahoma American Indian cultures, histories and destinations. more

AICCM is eager to welcome the launch of the dramatically improved OklaTravelNet channel to be broadcast from the Visitors Center beginning October 5, 2009. The new format and excitement will all be unveiled on October 19, 2009 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Oklahoma Governor's Conference on Tourism. Stay Tuned...

In celebration of American Indian Heritage Month, this program features new voices and new stories from Native America. Co-presented by the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. Screenings to include the Oklahoma City premiere of Sterlin Harjo's BARKING WATER, which screened at the Sundance Film Festival and most recently, the Venice Film Festival. more
