A major milestone was reached as members of the NACEA/AICCM Board of Directors, community stakeholders, staff and media gathered to commemorate the completion of the Visitor Cente, the first completed building on the nearly 300-acre development site.  more
OUTREACH

Choctawoutreach Tribal Outreach
October - December 2008
The AICCM/NACEA staff has been extremely busy throughout the fall conducting tribal outreach meetings.  To date the staff has met with 30 tribes across the state. The goal of this phase of tribal outreach is to invigorate the the exhibit experience with authentic tribal stories, appropriate cultural images and objects to create a one-of-a kind experience.  (more)

December 2 & 3, 2008

AICCM and the Smithsionian's National Museum of the American Indian partnered together to present a free workshop entitled  "How to Start a Tribal Museum" at the Ronald J. Norrick Downtown, OKC Library. There were approximately 80 attendees. (more)

COMMUNITY

Gov Conf OK Governor's Tourism Conference
October 13 & 14, 2008
AICCM  participated in the two-day conference with a vendor booth and attended conference workshops.
NMAI New York Meetings
October 27- 29, 2008
Directors of the NACEA/AICCM met with Directors from the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in New York to further discussions related to joint programming opportunities and attended the Fritz Sholder Reception. NACEA/AICCM Directors also met with Ralph Appelbaum Associates to focus efforts pertaining to image research.

OTRDOK Tourism & Recreation Meeting
November 6, 2008
AICCM hosted the Oklahoma Tourism & Recreation Advisory Committee meeting at the newly completed AICCM Visitor Center.
FILM Native Film Preservation Festival
November 6 - 9, 2008
AICCM  partnered with the Oklahoma Museum of Art, University of Central Oklahoma Film Studies, and the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian to present 4 newly restored films and concluded the weekend with a critical dialogue of the way Indians have been portrayed in films historically and in the present. Crystal Darkenss Oklahoma SAVE THE DATE

Leaders from across Oklahoma are participating in Crystal Darkness Oklahoma, a campaign aimed at tackling methamphetamine abuse in the state. The campaign's co-chairs, Oklahoma First Lady Kim Henry and former Oklahoma County District Attorney Wes Lane, said a 30-minute documentary will air on every Oklahoma television station at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 13, 2009. Volunteers are needed! If you would like to host a watch party please log onto the website Crystal Darkenss Oklahoma website to register your watch party.
