Central Promontory Dedication & Media Conference
On August 26, 2008 the NACEA/AICCM Board of Directors, Community Stakeholders, Staff and media gathered to officially commemorate the completion of the Central Promontory Mound. NACEA Executive Director, Gena Timberman offered remarks regarding the legacy of mound building in this part of the country and correlated that legacy to AICCM's current role as 21st Century Mound Builders. Central Promontory Mound "Topping Off Ceremony"
On August 7, 2008 Centennial Builders, members of the construction teams and NACEA/AICCM gathered in the Courtyard of Nations to witness the last scraper deliver the final load of soil to the top of the promontory mound. Following this exciting moment comments were offered by the contractors & subcontractors, the NACEA/AICCM staff were given the honor of placing the last soil to the geogrid baskets at the top of the promontory peak. Tribal Outreach
The AICCM staff has been busy throughout the summer assembling preliminary content and research to be used in museum exhibits for an Opening Day experience. This fall members of the staff will conduct an intensive series of meetings seeking input pertaining to: tribal stories, cultural objects or artifacts, important historic/timeline events, images, video or audio recordings, or other types of objects or information. Art in Public Places Workshop
On July 15, 2008 The Oklahoma Arts in Public Places office and AICCM co-hosted a workshop designed to guide artists through the Art in Public Places process. The workshop was hosted by the Oklahoma History Center. (More)

62nd Annual Southern Legislative Conference
AICCM had the great honor of assisting with the planning of the opening reception to welcome legislative leaders from a sixteen state region attending this year's conference. Opening Reception included: Native American Dancers, Singers, Arts & Crafts booths, traditional flute players, storytelling and contemporary Indian Music. (More)

Crystal Darkness Oklahoma Crystal Darkness Campaign Unveiling: September 29, 2008 | OK State Capitol | 2pm
Leaders from across Oklahoma are participating in Crystal Darkness Oklahoma, a campaign aimed at tackling methamphetamine abuse in the state. The campaign's co-chairs, Oklahoma First Lady Kim Henry and former Oklahoma County District Attorney Wes Lane, said a 30-minute documentary will air on every Oklahoma television station at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 13, 2009. "Oklahoma has made tremendous strides in fighting the epidemic of methamphetamine, but far too many families across our state still struggle with this powerful and deadly drug," Henry said. NACEA/AICCM is a participating agency helping to link Oklahoma's Indian Communities. (More)
