What's happening at Love INC in Anchorage?
 
The ministry continues to grow as we welcome Christian Church of Anchorage to join with the thirteen other partner churches.  This "family" of churches includes:

All are committed to the mission of Love In the Name of Christ to mobilize churches and ministries in serving together for the transformation of lives and communities In the Name of Christ.
 
A sincere thank you to these churches and the many volunteers who share their time and talents as well as financial support to sustain the ministry to enable it to continue to serve as Christ would have us help our neighbors.
Gap Ministry Focus:       Faithful Finances with Budget Counseling
This is but one of the special categories of ministry available through Love INC.  It's starting point is a scripture-based financial management course to be offered free of charge to individuals referred by Love INC.  Trained volunteers meet one-on-one with persons who want to pursue long-term financial stability. 
 
Individuals within the faith community who want to lend their energies and enthusiasm to this service are welcome.  If you are willing but short on the needed expertise, read on and mark your calendars before you fill up this coming weekend.
 
There will be a special opportunity for any volunteers interested in becoming a trained counselor this Saturday, June 6 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Anchorage City Church, located at 1301 West 100th Ave.  Professional training and lunch will be provided.  Please call 274-5683 for more information or to RSVP.

Frienship
When a neighbor contacts the Love INC call center, volunteers assess their situation, verify the need and connect them with local agencies, ministries, and volunteers from partnering churches.  Volunteer response has been great; however, there are some needs we are still unable to meet.
 
Below is a list of some of those immediate needs:
  • Clearinghouse Volunteers
    • Intake workers (Tuesdays or Thursdays 9 am-noon or 12:30 -3pm)
    • Verification/Office workers (Monday - Thursday 9am-3pm)
  • Furniture - 3 queen beds, 1 couch or loveseat

Poetry Writers Needed 
CTK is a Foundation Philanthropic Fund is committed to recognizing/celebrating nonprofit service and promoting the use of technology in addressing the root causes of societal issues.  It was founded by Community TechKnowledge, Inc., an Austin, TX, based company that exclusively provides software and services to over 6000 nonprofit organizations.
 
CTK provides the database service for Love INC in Anchorage.  This summer the foundation is sponsoring a Grant Competition, open to the nonprofits it serves.  An applicant is to submit a poem (4-8 lines) that expresses the heart of the mission statement of his/her nonprofit organization.
 
Applications are accepted from July 1 through August 15, 2009.  The winner will garner for his/her organization a $10,000 grant and poem will be set to music by the Grammy Award-winning group, Los Lonely Boys.
 
That should be incentive enough to get the creative juices flowing.  For further details, contact the Love INC office at 274-LOVE.
