Greetings!
Anchorage has not been immune to our country's declining economic condition. In October, we began experiencing a tremendous increase in requests, coinciding with an increase in our local unemployment rate. Rising unemployment - along with high gas prices, high food costs, and increasing utility/housing expenses have all painfully impacted families already living in poverty and have helped to cause more people to be in need. Many of the social service organizations in our community have had to cut or reduce their services because donations are down. More people are in need, while available options are declining. As the needs increase, we as the Body of Christ have an opportunity to make a greater difference in lives and bring help and hope to the hurting - in Jesus' name, caring Christians working together to answer cries for help.

Some people think teens spend all their time texting on their cell phones, instant messaging on the Internet, or downloading music on their iPods. The typical teenager (so the prejudice goes) thinks only of himself, and doesn't care about what's going on in the world around him.
Teenagers from a Love INC partner church, Chapel by the Sea, are proactively changing this stereotype. One Friday each month you'll find this group of thirty-some teens volunteering to meet an assortment of needs in our Anchorage neighborhoods. Teens meet at the church at 6:30 and are grouped into small crews with an adult driver. From then on, you'll see them rolling up their sleeves and making Anchorage a better place for our neighbors in need whose needs have been identified by the Love INC Clearinghouse.
The Chapel by the Sea youth group is certainly not picky about the kind of work they will do, or the kind of people they will help. They deliver gift baskets, clean houses, drop off meals, deliver furniture, and help folks move into permanent housing. This group is living out what it means to "love your neighbor". We at Love INC would like to express our thanks to the Chapel by the Sea youth group for their compassion, hard work and demonstration of Christ's love to those in need. They are a wonderful witness to us all.

Current Unmet Opportunities |

When a neighbor contacts the Love INC call center, volunteers assess their situation, verify the need and connect them with local agencies, ministries, and volunteers from partnering churches. Volunteer response has been great; however, there are some needs we are still unable to meet.
Below is a list of some of those immediate needs:
- Clearinghouse Volunteers
- Winter/Spring intake workers (Tuesdays or Thursdays 9 am-noon or 12:30 -3pm)
- Winter/Spring verification workers (anytime weekdays)
Furniture - especially quality beds, tables, and dressers)
A freezer has been donated to Love INC. We would love to "fill the freezer" with home cooked meals and desserts. Please call to coordinate a time to drop off a meal.
Digital camera
Please call 274-5683 or email us at info.loveincanchorage.org if you would like more information regarding any of these opportunities.

Gap and Partnering Ministry Highlights |
 |
 |
Gap Ministries provide resources or services to meet ongoing needs that are not currently being met by the government or local churches and agencies. The Love INC Clearinghouse obtains current and relevant information on reoccurring unmet needs within Anchorage, then provides potential ways partnering churches can meet those needs and have a deeper impact on the lives of individuals and our community. Love INC encourages churches to respond, and assists churches in developing an individual church ministry, joint church ministry or collaborative ministry (all church partners) to fill the gap in services. Gap Ministries are staffed by volunteers and only meet the needs referred by the Clearinghouse.
Heaven's Household The transition from homelessness to permanent housing can be daunting. Whether moving out of a shelter, coming out of prison, or starting from scratch, many people have few possessions with which to establish a home. In an effort to make this transition smoother, Love INC in Anchorage partners with South Central Community Church to provide the collection, storage and distribution of essential kitchen items and small appliances. The kitchen boxes include: · Pots and Pans · Dishware · Silverware & Utensils · Small kitchen appliances
If you have any of these items that you wish to donate, please contact Love INC by phone or email. Items need to be be in good working condition. Your gift is tax deductible.

When someone is living out the kingdom, there is this aroma, this presence, that makes a difference and that attracts people. We can live a life that can bring the kingdom of heaven on earth, as Jesus taught His disciples to pray. After you finish saying The Lord's Prayer, go and live it.
