Power of Acceptance
September 21, 2010
Acceptance means recognizing and showing appreciation for our differences. If we look at our hand we see an instantly recognizable characteristic that shows our uniqueness: our fingerprints. Each of us has a unique finger-print, no matter what race, gender, age or size. Respecting each other for our uniqueness is simply what we would like from them, so we must give it out first.
Acceptance and agreement are two different things and I believe that people have confused them and in the confusion it has caused division. We can agree to disagree and that is acceptance, acceptance of our uniqueness and acceptance of our differences. Is it that difficult just to love one another and respect one another for who we are on the way to where we are going? It is difficult if we do not love ourselves and who we are right here, right now on the way to where God is taking us.
Acceptance does not mean condoning mean or nasty behavior. Nor does it mean staying in a situation if it is damaging to you, but we must remember that what you consider damaging to you and what I consider damaging to me can be two different things. Yet we judge people for staying in a situation that we would have no part of, yet God has given them the grace to walk through the situation. When we comprehend the Power of Acceptance it will set us free and set the people around us free to be who they are.
The opposite of acceptance is judgment. What does judgment cause, FEAR and anger. God says in Matthew 7:1 Do not judge and criticize and condemn others, so that you may not be judged and criticized and condemned yourselves. (Amp) It is for our benefit to learn not to judge another person, because if I judge that person for something that will come back to me. It amazes me why we wonder why certain things happen to us when we have brought it on by our judgment of another person. When we are judging we have a hard time loving. We must forgive and walk in unconditional love for one another and we can do that through the power of acceptance. The 12 Step Program has a saying, "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." This is a powerful statement and only God can give you the peace that you need to accept things that you cannot change, only God can give you the courage to change what you can, and only God can give you the wisdom to know the difference. You do not have the power to change another human being, God does not force Himself on individual's, why are we doing it? He does not force His will upon us, yet we do this with people in our lives if they do not think like us, act the way we think they should act or do what we think they should do. You can only change yourself and the wisdom is knowing and accepting the difference! We must pray for one another and let God do the work. The Power of Acceptance changes lives, it changed mine and it will change yours; if you allow it too. Love and Blessings, Prophetess Debra |
