Thanksgiving 2008
Thanksgiving Day
Healthy, happy and delicious!
Greetings!

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, probably because I love to eat! Plus I have the Running of the Turkeys 5K in Arlington, VT, to look forward to on Thanksgiving morning. What could be better? An invigorating jaunt in the morning, followed by great food and time with family and friends.

As you prepare your holiday meals, utilize the help line information I've provided. Definitely try out some of the delicious and healthy recipes in the free holiday tips guide.

Most important of all, take a minute or two each and every day to remember all of the blessings we enjoy, and to ask for continued blessings for those dear to us.

Have a happy and healthy holiday!

Little bites add up to unwanted pounds

How many times during the day do you eat "just a taste" of something? Refuse an entire piece of pie, but agree to just a "small slice"? Finish up the rest of the casserole so you don't have to deal with leftovers? Grab a handful of cookies as you rush out the door to pick up the kids from school?

We often don't even remember eating these foods, but our waistline never forgets! Here are 6 ways to eat more mindfully:

1.  Only eat sitting down at the kitchen or dining room table.
2.  Before you grab food on the run, stop and take 2 deep breaths. That gives you time to think about what you're doing.
3.  Ask yourself:  why am I eating this? You may be surprised at how often the answer is NOT "because I'm hungry".
4.  Write down everything you put into your mouth as soon as you eat it. Keep a small notebook with you at all times, or jot it down on your computer. 2 jelly beans? Write it down.
5.  Chew sugar-free gum. It's impossible to eat when you're already chewing gum.
6.  Give yourself a "sometimes food" budget for each day, anywhere between 150 and 300 calories. It's fine to share an Oreo with your 3-year old at snack time, as long as you know that one double-stuffed Oreo contains 70 calories and you subtract it from your daily budget.
