Greetings!

ARE YOU PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN, GRATEFUL TO BE AN AMERICAN, or BOTH?

USMCGrateful people are happy to sacrifice for something greater than themselves.  Grateful people also understand that they share in the benefits of those who have sacrificed for them.

Pride comes with knowing that you have sacrificed for something greater than yourself.

I believe that our nations Water Quality is something to be grateful for, and is worth sacrificing for!  If you don't feel that way, then spend some time overseas in a third world country, and you'll kiss the ground you walk on, when you return to the good ol' US of A.  Spend some time and get to know the creeks, streams, rivers, lakes and coastal waters in your area.  The more you learn about them, the more you'll desire to prAmicalola Fallsotect them.  The Clean Water Act is largely responsible for our existing water quality!  Most states didn't get busy protecting our water until the USEPA made them accountable for the mess they allowed our waters to get into years ago!  Did you know that as late as the 1960's, most of our sewage was entering our natural water courses UNTREATED.  Erosion of our topsoil in Georgia alone, completely devastated our ability to grow crops through the 19th and half of the 20th century!

On another hand, if it wasn't for our nations incredible free enterprise system, we wouldn't have an economy that is still, with all the challenges, the envy of the world. It's BALANCE for our environment and our economy as the inevitable challenges from a sprawling population are created, that will make our country a place worth living in, and dieing for!  We all need to be grateful for the legal right we have in this country to take our water quality Citarum River, Java, Indonesiathreats to court, and be grateful that we have the legal ability to make money, save it and invest it into a retirement account.  Most other countries do not allow their citizens the ability to protect their liberties the way we do!

So to celebrate, let's all go to the sink, turn on the water, pour ourselves a nice, clear glass of clean H2O, while standing in our cool air conditioned house with the hard earned SUV parked in the garage, and thank the Clean Water Act, the Clean Drinking Water Act and the Constitution of the United States of America for the privilege!  You'll be a grateful American if you do, and a lot happier about paying the small price it takes to keep your water clean!

Yellowstone River Spill UPDATE

Larry Mayer, Billings Gazette
Larry Mayer, Billings Gazette

At approximately 11:00 PM Friday, July 1, 2011, a break occurred in a 12-inch pipeline under the Yellowstone River 20 miles upstream from Billings, Montana. The ruptured pipeline is owned by ExxonMobil Pipeline Company. According to the company, an estimated 1,000 barrels of oil entered the river before the pipeline was closed. EPA is leading the response in close coordination with the state of Montana and other federal agencies. EPA's primary concern is protecting people's health and the environment and will remain on-site to ensure cleanup and restoration efforts do just that. EPA continues to hold ExxonMobil, the responsible party, accountable for assessment and cleanup.

This website is updated daily and provides current information on the status of the response. Check the links on the right sidebar for daily updates.

USGS Surface-Water Data for Georgia and the US is Up and Runnin'!

USGS Hwy 141 Chattahooche Rvr Gauge

Data are collected by field personnel or relayed through telephones or satellites to offices where it is stored and processed. The data relayed through the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) system are processed automatically in near real time, and in many cases, real-time data are available online within minutes.

Once a complete day of readings are received from a site, daily summary data are generated and stored in the data base. Recent provisional daily data are updated on the web once a day when the computation is completed.

Annually, the USGS finalizes and publishes the daily data in a series of water-data reports. Daily streamflow data and peak data are updated annually following publication of the reports.

Nationally, USGS surface-water data includes more than 850,000 station years of time-series data that describe stream levels, streamflow (discharge), reservoir and lake levels, surface-water quality, and rainfall. The data are collected by automatic recorders and manual measurements at field installations across the Nation.

sewage spill w signPlaying politics with our nations waters is not cool!  Using the US EPA as a tool on either side of the political fence, to help satisfy a politicians special interest agenda instead of taking an unbiased approach to a situation, not only damages America's water quality, but the TRUE understanding that all Americans must have to make good sound decisions regarding the potential impacts to our fragile surface water systems.  Let's make no mistake, it takes a powerful economy to protect the environment.  The United States economy is paramount ALONG WITH our water quality.  There's no reason why the United States can't have both.  The Clean Water Act allows Americans the legal right to make sure we don't "drink the contamination in the water we catch our fish from".  Water is flushed down the toilet, and retreated for people downstream an average of 3 to 4 times in many of our nations rivers.  It's the Clean Water Act that ensures that individuals, corporations, states and federal facilities are held accountable for their impacts to our water quality.
