Greetings!

muddy allatoona
There are roughly 57,000 people trained and certified in Georgia's erosion and sediment control certification program.  That's a pretty amazing number, but while an individual's certification is important, it's more important that they are motivated to  keep the dirt out of the creek.

Most people have heard "a picture is worth a million words".  It is proven more true when you observe it live.  Take your family on 1/2 day drive this weekend to the headwaters of Lake Lanier, Lake
Allatoona, Lake Hartwell, or other countless lakes to view the sediment resting on the bottom of these once deep reservoirs.  It's an amazing spectacle!  We all hope that big rain events return, and return soon.  When they do, shouldn't we have learned a lesson from our record drought experience?

Let's work together to keep sediment from replacing water volume in our reservoirs!

Did you know that Alternative BMPs are now allowed on ES&PC Plans?

Required Documentation for Alternative BMPs:
1. One page summary detailing why the alternative BMP is equivalent or superior to the conventional BMPs found
in the "Manual for Erosion and Sedimentation Control in Georgia".
2. Documented side by side testing (alternative BMP vs. conventional BMP) using the appropriate design
requirements and specifications contained in the Manual.
3. Proof that the alternative BMP was previously installed and worked under conditions comparable to the
environmental conditions of the proposed site. This can be documented with photographs.
4. All specifications including the design requirements and the procedures for proper installation and maintenance.
All forms of documentation must be signed and certified by the Design Professional who is preparing the ES&PC Plan
and must includes the Design Professional's seal and GSWCC Design Professional certification.

What if a LIA with MOA wants to deny an alternative BMP?
Answer: The LIA with the MOA must forward the ES&PC Plan with the required alternative BMP documentation to the GSWCC (Urban Program).

Don't forget to checkout the US EPAs new proposed Effluent Limitations Guidelines and Standards for Construction and Land Development .   This legislation will more than likely require additional water treatment and sampling as stormwater leaves a Georgia property.
