Why Transparency in Maternity Care Matters: Bringing Birth Out of the Dark to Improve Outcomes
Presenter: Amy M. Romano, MSN, CNM

Today's quality improvement movement promises to revolutionize health care through greater attention to patient safety, transparency, and evidence-based practice.  This free education session will examine the role that transparency and public reporting of health outcomes may play in compelling quality improvements in our maternity care system.  The presenter will review the evidence basis for transparency initiatives, identify barriers to transparency in maternity care, and propose possible solutions.

This program is approved by the American College of Nurse-Midwives for 0.1 continuing education units (2008-052).  Contact hours have been applied for from the North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
