HOT OFF THE GRILL

Gayle's Sweet 'N' Sassy Newsletter

Greetings!

As the weather continues to get warmer and the days longer, you will often find me barbecuing a fresh piece of salmon on a cedar wood plank, seasoned with fresh herbs from my garden, and a healthy portion of Gayle's Honey Sweet BBQ sauce.

My commitment to preparing foods with the most natural and healthy ingredients has been a passion of mine for the past 28 years. I was inspired by both of my parents who made cooking together a family event. My three brothers and I would gather in our small kitchen fighting for space, to chop, dice and cut whatever it was for our evening dinner.

I continue to pass this tradition on with my family, though Alie and Katie would rather be eating than cutting and dicing... but as long as it includes Gayle's BBQ sauce, dinner is always a grand slam!

Enjoy your summer nights with a little Sweet'N'Sassy on your plate. We are now pleased to announce Gayle's healthy and delicious sauces will be served in many of your school cafeterias throughout California! We hope to expand to the rest of the school districts to add great taste with a healthy twist for all students.

We hope you enjoy our 5 Gayle's Barbecues sauce flavors... We are honored to be part of a family tradition for 28 years!

Enjoy,

It's too hot to cook! If you have a crock pot and Gayle's BBQ, you can still have a delicious meal, while staying out of the heat!

BBQ Beef Brisket
2 -3 lbs fresh beef brisket
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon celery seed
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 cups of Gayle's Apple Cider Smoke BBQ Sauce
1 Cup water

Directions:
1. Trim fat from brisket. If necessary, cut to fit into crock pot.

2. Combine chili powder, garlic powder, celery seed and pepper; rub evenly over meat. Place meat in a 3 1/2-5 quart crock pot.

3.  Pour Gayle's BBQ Sauce and water over brisket.

4. Cover; cook on low setting for 8 to 10 hours or on high for four to five hours.

5. Remove meat from cooker. Cut the brisket into thin slices across the grain. Skim fat off juices in cooker; serve juices with meat.

Make great brisket sandwiches by slicing meat, and adding more Gayle's BBQ Sauce on fresh sandwich rolls. Or add the sliced brisket to cool lettuces and your favorite crisp salad veggies, for a cool high protein salad!

Beat the Heat...

Of course, when you are a fan of BBQ, you like it hot, right?!  Cooking over open flames is great! But when the temperatures rise dramatically outside, make sure you're not cooking your brain!

The body has the ability to acclimate to hot weather but if heat waves come suddenly, or if a person travels from a cooler environment to a hot environment, the risk of heat exhaustion increases. Individuals with heat exhaustion tend to have symptoms such as profuse sweating, weakness, muscle cramps, headache, nausea and vomiting.

If you suffer from heat exhaustion, you must maintain proper hydration and find a cool place to rest. If you cannot hydrate, you may need to seek medical attention.

Make a DIY air conditioner. Put a metal bowl of ice in front of a fan, and adjust the fan so that the air is blowing over the ice. Or, use one or more 2 liter bottles and fill them mostly full of water, freeze them, then place them in a large bowl (to catch dripping water). Position a fan to blow on them. As the ice in the bottles melts, the air cools around them. The fan will blow that air at you. The water in the bottles can be frozen overnight and used again repeatedly.
