HOT OFF THE GRILL

Gayle's Sweet 'N' Sassy Newsletter

Greetings!

November retained its name from the Latin word, novem, meaning "Nine". It is associated with the month of spring in the Southern Hemisphere and autumn in the Northern Hemisphere.

It is quite common for some males in Australia (especially in Melbourne) and New Zealand to sport a moustache during the month of November.

November's birth stone is the yellow topaz.
November's birth flower is the chrysanthemum.

But, most importantly, November is the month we celebrate our favorite holiday.

THANKSGIVING

This is a time to celebrate all that you are thankful for with family and friends.
Reach out and invite someone into your home that may not have a place to celebrate. Be thankful that you are able to share this very special time..
While you are at it, pull out your favorite bottle of Gayle's BBQ Sauce and dab it on your favorite slice of Turkey...

Happy Thanksgiving..
From our family to yours.

Apple Cider SmokeMAKE YOUR THANKSGIVING GLOW THIS YEAR WITH GAYLE'S BBQ SAUCES
Are you looking for an easy snack to set out for guests or game time? Or how about kicking your gravy up a notch this year? We have two new BBQ recipes just in time for turkey day!

Gayle's BBQ Peanuts
These tasty BBQ peanuts are a delicious snack to serve with beer and wine. On top of that, peanuts are healthy - they are a good source of protein and are naturally cholesterol-free, low in saturated fat, plus contain over 30 essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Combined with Gayle's BBQ Sauce, which is cholesterol-free, fat free, trans-fat free, saturated fat free, gluten free and preservative free!

I like to use Virginia peanuts because they have the largest kernels, and for me, that increases snacking satisfaction! Be sure to taste the peanuts as you're mixing them up so you can add the salt just to your liking.

Prep time: 3 minutes
Cook time: 12 minutes
Yield: 1 cup of nuts

INGREDIENTS
1 cup unsalted peanuts (shells removed)
1 tablespoon
GAYLE'S BBQ SAUCE (any variety)
Salt to taste
Pinch of sugar

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spread peanuts onto a cookie sheet and toast until lightly browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the pan and turn the oven down to 350 degrees.

Put toasted peanuts into a bowl. Add BBQ sauce, salt to taste, and a pinch of sugar. Mix well until all the peanuts are lightly coated.

Spread the peanuts out on the same cookie sheet. Bake the nuts at 350 degrees for 5 minutes until the BBQ sauce dries.

Chipotle
Sassy BBQ Gravy:
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 Drumstick and Neck, from turkey
1 large onion, sliced
8 cups turkey stock or chicken stock
1/4 cup Gayle's BBQ Sauce (Original, Extra Sassy, Honey Sweet, Chipotle or Apple Cider Smoke)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Heat the vegetable oil in a saucepan on medium-high heat. Add the drumstick and neck and sear until brown. Remove from pan and reserve.
Lower heat and saute the onions. Add the stock, scrapping up the fond on the bottom of the pan. Add the drumstick and neck into the saucepan. Cover and let simmer until it comes to a boil; about 1 hour. Sauce will reduce down greatly. Remove turkey parts. Add BBQ sauce to pan and whisk together. Gravy will thicken. Season with salt and pepper.
Try a grilled dessert!
Is that a grilled peach recipe I smell cooking? Is that wonderful aroma of peaches, Amaretto, and vanilla really coming from your barbecue grill? Yes. Yes it is. If you are lucky enough to still have BBQ weather in November and want something different for for dessert, try grilling up this peach recipe.

Grilled Amaretto Peaches, like all grilled fruit recipes, makes an excellent barbecue side dish. Or, add a scoop of ice cream, a dollop of heavy cream or whipped cream and it's dessert!

Grilled Amaretto Peaches
4 or 5 peaches, halved and pitted
Amaretto Sauce:
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup Amaretto
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon vanilla

Heat all the sauce ingredients in a small saucepan until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat.

Baste the enitre peach halves with the sauce and place them cut side down on the grill over medium-low heat. Cook them for about 3 minutes and turn.

Spoon some of the sauce into each peach half and heat for another 4 or 5 minutes, until soft.

Serve as a side dish or top with ice cream or lightly sweetened heavy cream for dessert. Serves 8-10.

Injections for your turkey?!?

turkey injector

We're talking BBQ Sauce, not botox! By using a flavor injector, you can add pizazz to your turkey, while keeping it moist and delicious!

A flavor injector looks just like a regular hypodermic needle... it just has a bigger needle!

They're very easy to use. Just fill up the syringe with a marinade (like Gayle's Sweet 'N' Sassy BBQ Sauce!) and inject it into your turkey.

These devices can be used on other meats too. Injecting a steak, for instance, is an excellent non-holiday use for a flavor injector.

Now when using the injector on your turkey, you'll want to stick the needle into the meatiest parts of a bird, so that would be the thighs and the breasts. Don't stab too far in or else the marinade will just shoot out into the pan. And as your pressing down the plunger you're going to want to slowly pull the needle out to spread out the marinade.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you don't want to overpower the flavor of the turkey. A little marinade goes a long way. The goal here is to compliment the natural flavors of the turkey and not cover them up. A good idea is to practice on a few chicken dinners in the weeks before Thanksgiving to make sure you've got the hang of it before the big day.

Gayle's BBQ Sauces have a light natural flavor, which makes them perfect for using as a marinade with flavor injectors! Try all five varieties of Gayle's BBQ Sauces; Gayle's Original, Extra Sassy, Honey Sweet, Chipotle, and Apple Cider Smoke!
