Greetings!
There are so many wonderful things happening in August... People sitting at their favorite outdoor café, people watching, eating and chatting away.. Others may be hiking, beaching, traveling or sitting poolside on a warm summer weekend. There are also many fresh foods to choose from for the month of August. Here is a list of fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables you can find right now in your local markets;  Avocados, Basil, Bell Peppers, Beets, Blackberries, Boysenberries, Carrots, Chard, Chiles, Corn, Eggplant, Fennel, Figs, Garlic, Grapes, Green beans, Green onions, Okra, Onions, Peaches, Potatoes, Scallions, Shallots, Strawberries, Summer squash, Tomatillos, Tomatoes, Watermelon, and Zucchini. A Fantastic way to enjoy these fresh delicious vegetables would be to grill them on your barbeque, and spiff it up with our new Apple Cider Spoke or Chipotle BBQ sauce, or my personal favorite, Gayle's Original!!! This will be a sure way to enhance the taste, and put a smile on everyone's faces. Happy August.....

BBQ Beer Brat Kabobs INGREDIENTS 1 (19 ounce) package Beer Bratwurst, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 green bell pepper, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 medium zucchini, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 red bell pepper, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 medium yellow squash, cut into 1-inch pieces 2 cups fresh button mushroom caps 1 medium red onion, cut into 1-inch pieces 2 cups Gayle's Extra Sassy BBQ Sauce 6 (10 inch) wooden skewers DIRECTIONS Soak wooden skewers in water 30 minutes. Alternately thread bratwurst and vegetables onto skewers. Grill or broil kabobs 12 to 15 minutes or until brats are cooked through, turning and brushing occasionally with barbecue sauce. Refrigerate leftovers.
BBQ Marinated Vegetables INGREDIENTS
1 small eggplant, cut into 3/4 inch thick slices 2 small red bell peppers, seeded and cut into wide strips 3 zucchinis, sliced 6 fresh mushrooms, stems removed 1/4 cup olive oil 1/4 cup lemon juice 1/4 cup coarsely chopped fresh basil 2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced DIRECTIONSPlace eggplant, red bell peppers, zucchinis and fresh mushrooms in a medium bowl. In another medium bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, basil and garlic. Pour the mixture over the vegetables, cover and marinate in the refrigerator at least 1 hour. Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat. Place vegetables directly on the grill or on skewers. Brushing frequently with the marinade, cook on the prepared grill 2 to 3 minutes per side, or to desired doneness.
Fun Fries
Try these fun "fries" for BBQ sauce dipping:
Avocado sliced covered in raw cracker pieces (blended into a fine powder
Jicama sliced and cut into fry shapes covered in Walnut Parmesan Cheese.
Jicama covered in salt, paprika, cayenne powder, and dried basil.
Celery sticks, carrot sticks and cherry tomatoes also taste great with Gayle's BBQ sauces! |
