HAPPY 4TH OF JULY Americans celebrate July 4th as Independence Day because it was July 4, 1776, that members of the second continental congress, meeting in Philadelphia, adopted the final draft of the Declaration of Independence.
The Declaration of Independence is a justification of the American Revolution, citing grievances against King George III of England. It affirms that since all people are creatures of God, or nature, they have certain natural rights, or liberties, that cannot be violated. When the war ended in 1783, July 4th became a holiday in some places.
In 1941, congress declared July 4 a federal holiday. Over time, various summertime activities came to be associated with the fourth of July, including pageants, baseball games, watermelon eating contests, trips to the beach, picnics and BBQ's... And what better way to celebrate a fourth of July BBQ than with all of your favorite Gayle's Sweet'N'Sassy BBQ Sauces! July 28th is National Hamburger Day. July 28th - National Hamburger Day!
Louis Lunch, home of the first hamburger. As the story goes... "One day in the year 1900 a man dashed into a small New Haven luncheonette and asked for a quick meal that he could eat on the run. Louis Lassen, the establishment's owner, hurriedly sandwiched a broiled beef patty between two slices of bread and sent the customer on his way with America's first hamburger."

Gayle's BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches
Gayle's Sweet 'N' Sassy Original BBQ Sauce Boston Butt - Pork Shoulder - Pork Tenderloin - (I prefer bone in but you can do it either way) Olive Oil Salt and Pepper Apple Juice (I like Martinelli's as it has a bite which is good for the meat and is all natural.) Chopped Medium Onion Chopped Carrot Chopped Celery with leaves Cilantro Hawaiian Sweet Rolls (or any other kind will do) Crock Pot
Our favorite is the slow cook way in your crock pot. Preheat skillet to high - add a small amount olive oil. Coat your piece of pork with olive oil and salt and pepper. Sear all sides of the pork until you have a nice brown crust all around. Once this is done - put pork in crock pot off to the side, until veggies are tender and cooked through.
Take your medium chopped onion, chopped carrots and chopped celery and add them to the pan that you just seared the pork in. Cook until the onions are translucent. Pour this mixture on top of the pork and add apple juice or wine to just cover the meat completely. Cover and cook on high for at least 10 hours or until pork easily pulls apart. When your cooking time has passed, pull the pork out. It should now be tender and ready to be pulled. This is easily done with a fork or tongs. Place the pulled pork into a skillet - add Gayle's Original BBQ Sauce and heat through.
Coat the Hawaiian Sweet roll with Gayle's Sweet 'N' Sassy Original BBQ sauce - add pork, chopped cilantro and enjoy! |
