Happy Father's Day! |
My father "Bernie" who bought a BBQ restaurant in South Central Los Angeles in the late 60's, inherited a BBQ Sauce recipe that became the talk of neighborhood.
Years later, I was working as an actress in a commercial, and after spending two weeks on the set I became friendly with the cast and crew. They had heard about my dad's restaurant and his famous BBQ sauce and asked if I would cater the wrap party after the commercial was completed. Shortly after the wrap party, I received a phone call from the director saying that the production people who where from Texas called to say, "The blonde was ok, but how do we purchase her BBQ Sauce?". This was to be the day Gayle's Sweet 'N' Sassy Foods was born. That evening I told my Dad my plan and asked if he wanted to go into business with me, marketing a BBQ Sauce... he laughed and said he would show me how to make the sauce if I was really serious about it. That next day, my dad brought home a 55 gallon pickle barrel, a coffee urn and all of the ingredients to make the first batch of BBQ Sauce. Together with my dad, mom and three brothers we mixed and poured day and night. The rest is Sweet 'N' Sassy history. From my dad to me, from me to you... The aroma drives you crazy - the taste takes you all the way to heaven!

INGREDIENTS:
Gayle's Sweet 'N' Sassy Original BBQ Sauce Boston Butt - Pork Shoulder - Pork Tenderloin - (We prefer bone in but you can do it either way) Olive Oil Salt and Pepper Apple Juice or two Bottles of Merlot Chopped Medium Onion Chopped Carrot - four large Chopped Celery - four large Chopped Cilantro- to taste Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
DIRECTIONS: Our favorite is the slow cook way in your crock pot. Preheat skillet to high - add a small amount olive oil. Coat your piece of pork with olive oil and salt and pepper. Sear all sides of the pork until you have a nice brown crust all around. Once this is done - put pork in crock pot off to the side, until veggies are tender and cooked through. Take your medium chopped onion, chopped carrots and chopped celery and add them to the pan that you just seared the pork in. Cook until the onions are translucent. Pour this mixture on top of the pork and add apple juice or wine to just cover the meat completely. Cover and cook on high for at least 10 hours or until pork easily pulls apart. When your cooking time has passed, pull the pork out. It should now be tender and ready to be pulled. This is easily down with a fork or tongs. Place the pulled pork into a skillet - add Gayle's Original BBQ Sauce and heat through. Coat the Hawaiian Sweet roll with BBQ sauce - add pulled pork, top with cilantro and enjoy! **This recipe created for Gayle's Sweet 'N' Sassy Foods**
