4/27/09 Walking Vietnam & Cambodia - Cruising the Mekong Delta
OCTOBER - 13 DAYS
Starting in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), we visit Vietnam's most vibrant city and enjoy her many highlights on a historic and cultural walk. In Phnom Penh, we visit the Royal Palace and National Museum, and learn how Cambodia is still recovering from decades of civil war and the senseless genocidal disaster imposed by Khmer Rouge communists. At journey's end, we are awed by the majesty of the temples of Angkor, built at the height of the Khmer Empire 1000 years ago. The common thread, however, and the image we'll remember longest, is village life along the Mekong. Traditional lifestyles are still the norm along the river, as we discover during several walks, and our Mekong River cruise connects us to the heartbeat of over 60 million people who eat and sleep, marry and bear children, and die along her banks.
