Why Cruise the Mekong?

Now accepting Early Bird deposits for Vietnam & Cambodia 2010!

Although Vietnam & Cambodia was not initially a part of our 2010 schedule, after returning from the inaugural 2009 trip, Dan would like to make this life-changing opportunity available to all of our travelers next year. If you'd like to join us for Vietnam & Cambodia in January 2010 by reserving your spot with a refundable $50 Early Bird deposit, please respond to this email!

Magnificent Angkor Wat!

A Note from Dan:

Being back on this side of the planet from our Adventure in Vietnam and Cambodia feels, in some ways, like returning from the Indo-China of the 19th century colonial era to the techno-cluttered world of the 21st century West. The warm and gracious patterns of life along the Mekong River appear little changed, even from centuries past. Boats are still crafted in the same timeless design. The rhythm of the rains still dictates planting and harvesting of rice. Wherever there is water - which is nearly everywhere when the rains have come! - fish are still gathered in a multitude of low tech, ingenious trapping and netting devices. Locals still wear the simple, stylish cone-shaped coolie hats, and manual labor is still the primary way to get work done along the river... Click here to read the full article.

Why Cruise the Mekong?

Travelers sometimes ask us why we have restricted this Adventure to the Mekong River, as opposed to visiting the rest of Vietnam. We realize that Vietnam has many other sites worthy of a Walking Adventure, including Hanoi, Hue, Halong Bay, and other areas of historic, cultural, or scenic significance. We'd like to return to Vietnam and develop a future Adventure exploring these sites in central and northern Vietnam, but because of the advantages of cruising the Mekong, we decided to make this river our first area of exploration in Southeast Asia... Click here to read the full article.

What 2009 travelers had to say:

The Vietnam/Cambodia trip was truly an adventure & another great cultural experience. The children touched my heart with their smiles and hellos. Cruising the Mekong with the many floating villages will forever be a favorite memory.

~ Margie (Gaithersburg, MD)

Entire cruise was exceptional - staff, food, and route. Walk at Angkor Wat finishing the trip was a highlight. Loved navigating Saigon street crossings and the markets. Great routes to see local life - especially loved stops at wedding prep party and school along route.

~ Valerie (Seattle, WA)

Walking in Vietnam & Cambodia after such major upheavals in both countries in the past 30 years provided rare insights into how these resilient cultures are reshaping their respective countries. A "must see" experience to do now while the transformation is ongoing.

~ Lee (Rockville, MD)
