WE NEED ITEMS!!!
Largest Garage Sale
in OKC
Saturday, March 27
towels and collars
GPMR is participating in the Largest Garage Sale in OKC again this year.  This was one of our largest fundraising events last year and all we need is your unwanted stuff!  This is the perfect time to clean out those garages and closets and help earn money for GPMR!  Every item donated has the potential to sell and make money for GPMR--no item too big or too small.*

*We are not accepting adult clothing or shoes (we've found these don't sell at this event).
Amazing Gracie: A Dog's Tale
Amazing Gracie
GPMR would like to send a huge Thank You to Mark & Dan who are the founders of The Gracie Foundation. The Gracie Foundation was set up to help neglected and abused dogs.

Mark & Dan are the writers of Amazing Gracie: A Dog's Tale:

"She was the loneliest pup in the litter - a deaf and partially blind albino Great Dane.  She had huge sky blue eyes. And this is her story.  All royalties from Amazing Gracie benefit the Gracie Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose funds help abused and neglected animals."

Greetings!

We cannot believe how much we grew in 2009!   Last year we had 34 adoptions, and we considered that a BUSY year.  It is an incredible amount of work that goes into operating a rescue at our level, and we are so thankful for the help everyone has given to save these wonderful dogs!

URGENT:  We have a lot of medical cases right now! Please consider making a donation to GPMR to help dogs like JJ, Simba, Sully, and Carter.

New Fosters: THANK YOU!!

AbbeyThank you to everyone who responded to our plea for foster homes!  Several lives were saved because you opened your homes to a mastiff in need!

We currently have 22 dogs in our program, more than ever before.  But our need isn't over!  Requests to take mastiffs is higher than ever, so if you are still considering fostering but haven't volunteered yet, please do!  We are full and will have to turn Mastiffs away if we don't have a foster home to place them in.
Meet Cabo: Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome!
Cabo

Cabo's arrival into GPMR was one of the most exciting we ever had.  Cabo was very nervous and frightened when we first picked him up.  Upon arrival to a volunteer's house, he backed out of his collar while getting out of the car and ran into the woods.  It took a week, many volunteers, a live trap, and Sonic hamburgers to catch him.  Cabo was taken immediately to the emergency vet where he got a full checkup to make sure he was healthy and injury-free.  Surprisingly he suffered only a few scratches and scrapes during his week-long adventure.

Knowing Cabo's special issues, his foster mom offered to give him the time, space, and affection he needed to heal.  He adjusted quickly in foster care and became fast friends with his foster siblings.  He is learning how to play and loves the snow.  His foster mom reports Cabo snowthat he loves to run, jump, and hop around in the snow like a kangaroo!  When Cabo's not romping outside, he likes to cuddle up on the couch with his person's hand in his mouth and give love nibbles.  He also loves treats and will sit or lie down for a snack or ice cube while his tail is spinning around and around.  His foster family thinks he might take off flying one day!

If you want a love-bug who likes to cuddle and wants to be your best friend, Cabo is the one!

Be Careful: Dog Stealing on the Rise!
beware

In the last month, GPMR has been notified about 3 separate incidents of Mastiffs being stolen out of their owners' yards.  In one case, the owners were actually home and the dog had been outside for less than 30 minutes.  In the other two situations, the Mastiff was left outside alone while the owners were away at work.

Thefts in general are on the rise and our dogs are no exception.  We cannot stress enough the importance of leaving your dogs inside when you are not home.  When you are home, please make sure your gates are locked the inside with a padlock so that someone can't quickly open the gate and let the dog out.

Microchips are also important.  Sometimes dogs that are stolen do end up in shelters.  We microchip all of our dogs, registering them to their new owners and keeping GPMR as a secondary contact in the event the owners can't be reached.  It is important to make sure that if you move or your phone numbers change, contact the microchip company and update your information, and to give GPMR your new info as well.

Featured Volunteer: Dawn Cook
  Dawn and Cruiser
Dawn is one of our most active and devoted volunteers.  She is our relentless Intake Coordinator, Treasurer, and Board member.  The lives of many mastiffs are saved on a daily basis because of her work and dedication to the breed. We definitely couldn't do what we do without our "Dawninator!"

Dawn and her husband Todd live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area with their Mastiffs Abby, Samantha, & Baxter, and their dachshund mix, Chawhee.  They own and run a mobile plumbing company, which allows Dawn to work at home and be with her fur babies.

Dawn is also the organizer of the Mid-City Mastiff Meet-Up in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  The Meet-Ups are a regular social gathering of Mastiff lovers from all around the DFW area.
