The Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs and the Seattle Arts Commission will be holding a two-day event to gather information from artists, arts professionals and the general public that will help form policy on how to create and sustain affordable and relevant space for artists and arts organizations in Seattle. Please read on to learn more about this event and how you can participate. Public Forum

Free and open to the public

Join The Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs and Seattle Arts Commission at a public forum and help shape policies to keep and create affordable space for artists and arts organizations to work, rehearse and perform in Seattle. Hear from national and local cultural space leaders; discuss policy, funding and program models; and learn about current cultural space projects.

Keynote address by Theaster Gates.
Panel discussion, Q&A and reception to follow.



The panel discussion will feature Theaster Gates; Jacqueline Gijssen, senior cultural planner, city of Vancouver, B.C.; Cathryn Vandenbrink, regional director, ArtSpace; and Susan Seifert, director, Social Impact of the Arts Project, University of Pennsylvania.

Theaster Gates is an artist, musician, and cultural planner. Gates is the 2011-2012 recipient of theSeattle Art Museum's
(SAM) Gwendolyn Knight and Jacob Lawrence Fellowship. His solo show Theaster Gates: The Listening Room will open at SAM on Dec. 9 and run through July 1.

Cultural Space Seattle is a free event open to the public and designed to engage artists, arts and cultural organizations, elected officials, government leaders, arts administrators, creative business owners, investors, real estate developers and brokers, nonprofit organizations and interested citizens.

A morning working session will follow the public forum, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wed., Dec. 7 at Town Hall Seattle. Cultural space leaders will discuss current arts space projects, policy and funding and program models. Participants will roll up their sleeves and work together toward a plan to advance an agenda for cultural space in Seattle. The working session is free, but registration is required. Space is limited to the first 50 registrants. Register here. But hurry, slots are filling fast.
