| Nutmeg Kitchens - Your Secret Weapon in Holiday Stress Management! |
| Greetings!
This time of year offers so many culinary delights - earthy squashes of all shapes and sizes, pears and apples that add dimension to sweet and savory dishes alike, hot spiced cider, roasted meats lapped in tangy sauces, and comfort classics like mashed potatoes. Even the lowly parsnip has been elevated to new heights. Check out the latest issue of Fine Cooking magazine for some intriguing recipes using this overlooked, but versatile, root vegetable, www.finecooking.com. I'm adding the parsnip risotto to my repertoire!
I associate Autumn with gathering - gathering the harvest's bounty, gathering with friends and family, and most importantly, gathering foodstuffs for the less fortunate in our communities. For those of you living in the Portola Valley/Woodside area, making a donation to a local food bank is now as simple as gathering a grocery bag full of non-perishables, such as pastas, rice, peanut butter, canned soups, fruits and vegetables, and bringing it to Valley Presbyterian Church, 945 Portola Road, Portola Valley. The Ecumenical Hunger Program (EHP) of East Palo Alto will be the appreciative beneficiary of your donation. Until November 22, you may drop off your bag(s) in the large container marked EHP, located in the church parking lot.
For nearly 35 years, EHP has provided services to a diverse community of low income families and individuals. Programs include emergency food assistance; providing furniture, clothing and household essentials; support and referral services; health and nutrition classes, and youth programs. Please join me in supporting this valuable community resource. For more information about EHP, visit http://ehpcares.org .
Thanksgiving Day comes, by statute, once a year; to the honest man it comes as frequently as the heart of gratitude will allow.

My best wishes to you throughout this holiday season...
Cheers,
