Margie's Iced Sun Tea
According to Eating Well magazine, iced tea is not only easy and inexpensive to make, but studies show that drinking tea regularly "may reduce your risk of Alzheimer's and diabetes, plus give you healthier teeth and gums and stronger bones." As an antioxidant, tea is rich in flavonoids. Adding a slice of lemon, lime or orange to iced tea helps preserve the flavonoids, and adds extra zip, too! Use your imagination and create your own flavor combinations for a cooling summertime beverage.
Ingredients
- One cup mint leaves, stemmed but whole
- 4 whole star anise
- 1 lemon, thinly sliced
- Cold water
- 6 tea bags - I use Lipton's but you can experiment with any black tea such as Earl Grey, Darjeeling or even Jasmine
-Cold water
Method
Place the mint leaves, star anise and sliced lemon in a one gallon glass container with a cover. Fill the container with cold water. Drape the tea bags over the lip of the container and screw on the cover. Place in full sun for 1-2 hours, until steeped. Strain the tea into a pitcher, serve over ice with a spring of mint and a lemon slice for garnish.

National Personal Chef Day is July 16 We're Changing the Way America Eats! When I began Nutmeg Kitchens nearly three years ago, I never dreamed there would be a special day dedicated to my new profession. A lot has changed in that time span: I've created a specialty niche market in the Mid-Peninsula area; I've served many wonderful clients by providing a variety of services; I've expanded my own culinary horizons; I am now a member of the United States Personal Chef Association (USPCA), the largest Personal Chef organization in the country, and I get to celebrate National Personal Chef Day on July 16th! I had the good fortune to join the Personal Chefs Network in November 2006, which allowed me to network with and learn from other chefs across the US. Attending PCN symposiums in Chicago and Charleston and meeting often with fellow chefs has given me even more ideas and inspiration for running my own culinary business. In April 2009, PCN merged with USPCA, creating a group of several thousand personal chefs in the US and Canada and providing each member with an even better advantage in the growing personal chef industry. USPCA is headquartered in Rio Rancho, New Mexico and, founded in 1991, is the oldest and largest professional trade group for personal chefs. Learn more about USPCA
I have already had the opportunity to meet with several of my new USPCA Bay Area compatriots and just like my PCN friends, I am impressed with their professionalism and passion for preparing delicious, healthy food. I'm looking forward to celebrating my new USPCA membership on National Personal Chef Day and to continue to provide you with high quality, innovative services.
