Next month we will discuss important methods how to reduce harmonic distortions and restore Power Quality relating to THD Limits, Filters and Power Factor Correction.

Welcome to the May newsletter!

Astrodyne has been busy these last few months settling into our new Headquarters facility in Mansfield, MA and most recently with the acquisition of Jerome Industries.  As we continue to grow and  expand, we want to ensure we keep our focus on our customers.

In an effort to maintain this goal, we strive to cover topics that are relevant and of interest to our customers.   This month we focus on LED lighting standards.  As LED continues to grow and reach new markets, so do the system requirements for efficient and sustainable power sources.   EN61000-3-2 Class C standard is the latest standard which addresses harmonic currents.

If you have a topic of interest that we can cover, please email us at techs@astrodyne.com and we will be happy to add it to the calendar!

Sincerely,

Power Quality & Lighting Systems
A Look Into EN6100-3-2 Class C
 OLP48

New technologies in lighting have today's designers focusing a keen eye toward power quality. Power quality is the ability of an electrical system to deliver power in the safest, most efficient manner. Power quality is an important consideration in all industries, but with the advent of LEDS, Compact Fluorescent Lighting (CFL), High Intensity Discharge (HID) lighting and others, the commitment to an efficient power distribution system is more essential than ever.

There are several standards which exist for lighting industry compliancy.  It is incumbent on power supply manufacturers to produce supplies capable of meeting the appropriate lighting standards for safety and emissions.  The standard which most directly affects power quality is the standard for limitations on harmonic currents, or EN61000-3-2 Class C limits.  ANSI C82.77-2002 is the harmonic emissions specifications for luminaries in the United States.   Read Full Article....
