Antiques Roadshow finds hidden treasure in Biloxi

When
the popular PBS program Antiques Roadshow added Biloxi, Mississippi to their
schedule for July 2010, they wanted to find a visual symbol of the region to
use on their website and publicity documents.
Their search led them to the Biloxi Bay Bridge and Illumination
Arts, and we found ourselves with the pleasant surprise of a request from the
show to use our nighttime photograph of the bridge. If you click here, you'll see IA's "postcard
picture" of the bridge is the banner
image on the Antiques Roadshow website for their Biloxi visit.

Rutgers Livingston Theaters:
The theaters at Rutgers'
Livingston campus will provide a welcome amenity for their new residence halls
and a comfortable venue for movies at night and lectures and presentations during
the school day. Illumination Arts is
designing a dual-purpose lighting system for the theaters and a unique lighting
solution for the glass-enclosed lobby.
I-74 Mississippi River Bridge: As the aesthetic design for
this bridge moves forward, we continue to work with the design team and the
Iowa and Illinois Departments of Transportation to develop beautiful,
cost-effective lighting solutions for the arch span over the Mississippi River
and the seven-mile I-74 corridor.
Hastings Bridge:
The design/build team has been selected and preliminary design is about to begin for this signature span across the Mississippi River.

The Small Things Make it All Worth While
Over the past two years, the architectural and
construction communities have been heavily impacted by the economy. So it was a real gift when we recently
received a wonderful reminder of the reason we all work so hard to create
beautiful, sustainable environments where people can work, play and live.
As we announced in our last newsletter, in 2006,
Illumination Arts was commissioned to provide lighting design services for the
rebuilding of the Biloxi Bay Bridge, which had been destroyed by Hurricane
Katrina. IA's design for the bridge
focused on the physical and symbolic concept of reconnecting the communities of
the Gulf Coast whose links to families, friends and businesses had been severed
by the loss of this key transportation artery.
Recently, we received this note from a Gulf Coast resident
through our website:
"Just wanted to say
'Thank You' for the Biloxi Bay Bridge. It is a beautiful sight. It means
so much for our community rebuilding effort to have such a landmark. It
serves to encourage us as to how far we've come and inspire us to keep
going."
The last several years have been difficult for many
people, for a wide range of reasons ranging from natural disasters to human
greed. But our work makes a difference
in people's lives, and for the honor and joy of doing that, we thank all of our
friends and colleagues who continue to make Illumination Arts a success.
We also want to thank
our design team colleagues on Biloxi Bay for giving us the opportunity to make
that difference: Parsons Transportation, Touchstone Architecture and Design,
and Williford Gearhart and Knight.

Saks Fifth Avenue joins the IA Family
Continuing
the long history of retail lighting design for both the firm principals and
Illumination Arts, we are pleased to welcome Saks Fifth Avenue to the family of
IA clients.
IA has been commissioned to develop a lighting design for the Fifth Avenue Flagship store that will provide Saks with an exciting
environment that is both beautiful and energy efficient. Working with the owner and their
internal design team, IA is helping to define a new look and lighting solution
for Saks' ready-to-wear vendor shops.

Peddie School Athletic and Aquatic Center
The Peddie School in Hightstown, New Jersey needed an
updated facility for their award-winning swim team and other sports teams and
activities. The new and expanded Athletic
and Aquatic Center opened in January 2010, in time for the first swim competition
of the New Year. The concourse creates a
welcoming entry, a gathering place for students and visitors, and a cohesive
connection between the field house, natatorium, fitness center, and other
facilities. Slender, recessed, linear
slots contain lighting, sprinklers and speakers, and create a rhythm and
vocabulary for the entire building. With
a state-of-the-art Light Pipe lighting system at the pool, and luminous
exterior walls that glow "Peddie Blue" at night, the campus has a new center of
activity and excitement.
