At the forefront of many people's minds these days is, of course, how to save energy, both for the sake of the environment as well as our utility bills.
New solar technology and
vastly improved building techniques, some of which are being funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (the economic stimulus bill), have us well down the path to homes that offer more comfort without hogging the unrenewable energy sources.
Conserving water is something we Northern Californians seem to know how to do well and proudly. However, with
improved fixtures and faucets, it will be easier to conserve. An example is the Niagra Stealth toilet which beats the other low-flow toilets by an impressive 37% and is amazingly quiet due to its bubble flush rather than force flush. What a concept.
Homes located closer to workplaces, retail and public transit are beginning to hold sway over homes inconveniently located.
Awareness of toxicity in the products we use and environment we live in make
low or non-toxic building materials the trend for 2011 and into the future.
