Welcome to our newsletter.  Our aim is to educate and inspire.

California has its problems, but we can be proud of  CARB (California Air Resources Board).  The Board just passed a measure which requires formaldehyde levels to be lowered in plywood, fiberboard and particleboard.   The Air Toxics Control Measure will help us to significantly reduce emissions in homes.  Formaldehyde is used in adhesives and many building products.  It is classified as a human carcinogen, and may contribute to respiratory illness and cancer.   The goal is zero formaldehyde in the future, and our health is in the balance.

MIX UP YOUR FINISHES

During the design and finish choice phase of the remodel, many a homeowner has asked us, "Can we have granite AND tile surfaces together in one bathroom?"  The answer is yes, and in fact it is common and part of the fun of selecting harmonious finishes.

Here you can see a rich cobalt blue tile covering the bath/shower stall wall (reflected in the mirror).
In the foreground is a stunning blue granite vanity countertop.  The substances are so different, yet they add contrast and compatibility at the same time to the look of the room.

WATCHING THAT BOTTOM LINE

We know times are tough and just about everybody is watching their budget.  There are ways to reduce the cost of renovating that will still fulfill your vision of a beautiful home.  Here are a few ways:
  • Simplification of design
  • Choice of surface finishes
  • Factory-sourced cabinets
  • Choice of appliances
  • Choice of hardware
Homeowners can be overwhelmed by the multitudes of finishes, design solutions, and newfangled appliances out there.  The best way to make selections is with the guidance of a trusted general contractor, architect or designer.
