October greetings!
At this time of year we traditionally decorate the entry to our house with pumpkins of all sizes:  gigantic, medium-sized sugar pie pumpkins, and the tiny ones too.  They're a cheery splash of warm color that lift our spirits as days shorten and grow darker.  Do you have a tradition for the autumn?  Please let us know if you'd like to share it with others, and it will appear here!

We're In the San Francisco Chronicle!

Did you catch us in the Sunday, October 4th Home and Garden Section?  The title of the article is "Order In The Courtyard".  Journalist Jeannie Matteucci interviewed Steve, the architect and the homeowners to write a substantially lengthy feature story with beautiful photos taken by our friend and photographer J. Michael Tucker.

If you missed it, here's the link:   Click Here

The 'courtyard' lies on the inside of the fence and gate shown above.  The project covered many different sides and levels of the house:  entry, southern side, deck at rear and another deck below that, and garden level retaining wall and gravel path.  You can see more photos of the job at my blog:

and a slideshow of J. Michael Tucker's striking photo essay of the deck on our website under "Slide Show".

Keeping It Clean

Dust, debris and fumes from demolition and construction can wreak havoc on your eyes, nose, sinuses, throat and skin.  For those who suffer from asthma, they can be a serious health hazard.

There are ways that an experienced builder can protect you and your family from those invasive particles.  To keep the dust out of the rest of your living space, we set up a dividing plastic tarp.  We tape it up carefully around the entrance of the area that is being remodeled.

Adequate ventilation is another component of clean air quality during construction.  We often set up a blowing fan to keep the air circulating and carrying particles out of the house.  It also creates a pressure barrier to prevent pollutants from entering other parts of the house.
