First Impressions

Entry walkway and covered porch in Oakland hills
Can you envision approaching the front of your house from somebody else's eyes? Try to imagine what they would see and then ask yourself if this is the first impression that you want to give guests coming to visit.
Landscaping is naturally prime in its impact on the appearance of your front entry. Is it unkempt or neatly manicured; blooming and lush or scant and wispy? You can improve your front garden using native California, drought-resistant plants to keep the landscape 'green'.
The next impression will be given by the walkway, or lack of one, to your front door. Is it cracked and crooked, or aligned gracefully and smoothly to bring your guests safely to the doorbell or knocker? Are stairs strong and safe?
Finally your dear visitor has arrived at the entrance. Does your front door blend well with the front of the house? Is it in good condition? And last but not least, is it covered by an attractive eave that can be relied upon to keep rough and harsh weather from eroding the door?

Grohe faucets and Kohler sink contrast with the ebony black granite in this Piedmont bath remodel
Counter Proposal
Black granite seems to have skyrocketed in popularity in the past few years, at least with our clients. We have always maintained through the years that granite is an excellent material to install in your house. It is extremely strong and durable, non-porous particularly after being sealed, and holds up well over time. It can endure very hot temperatures and resists the most staining of spills, such as beet juice or catsup.
Black granite is unpatterned, solid and perfect for a simple, modern veneer. It sets off the fixtures and sink most appealingly. Chrome, nickel or bronze, antique or brushed finishes, they all gleam with luster atop the dark background.
If you are planning a room remodel that involves countertop replacement, visit a granite and marble showroom. The variety of colors and textures will astound you and at the same time will offer you many choices. You can actually reserve a slab of stone as your own and the store will put it on reserve for you for a limited period of time.
